As a seasoned gamer with over three decades under my belt, I must say this week has been quite the rollercoaster ride! The news about Game Informer shutting down after 33 years felt like a punch to the gut, especially since I had just subscribed to their magazine earlier this year. It’s like the gaming world is losing a trusted friend who always kept us updated on the latest and greatest.
Video game news feels like it exploded this week, and we have plenty to cover across the board!
Game Informer shutting down
Let me rephrase it for you: Last week, we overlooked mentioning it, but sadly, after 33 years, Game Informer is closing down. Earlier this year, they revitalized their iconic magazine, which I quickly subscribed to. The unexpected announcement of its closure last week sent shockwaves throughout the gaming community.
As a long-time follower of Game Informer and a passionate gamer myself, I was taken aback by the sudden change that seemed to have occurred within their team. Reading the quick article at PC Gamer about their deleted “goodbye” tweet left me feeling uneasy. With years of memories spent reading their magazine, attending events they covered, and engaging in discussions with their staff online, this unexpected turn of events feels quite off-putting. It’s hard not to wonder what lies ahead for such an influential voice in the gaming community.
Meta closing Ready at Dawn Studios
As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the mesmerizing virtual worlds created by Ready at Dawn Studios, I was saddened to learn of their closure earlier this week. I have fond memories of playing games like “Lone Echo,” “Echo VR,” and “God of War” on my Oculus headset, feeling transported to other realms and lost in captivating stories that seemed so far removed from the mundane reality of daily life.
Listening to news about studio shutdowns is always disheartening, particularly given the current wave of layoffs happening in the field. However, let us hope that the team at Ready at Dawn will discover even more promising prospects as they navigate through this challenging time.
Teaser trailer for HBO’s The Last of Us season 2
Catch a glimpse of what’s ahead with “The Last of Us” Season 2 from HBO. A brief sneak peek is showcased at the conclusion of the following trailer, highlighting all shows set to air on Max in 2025.
The storyline doesn’t reveal a lot about what to expect. A small part of me feels slightly disappointed because it seems like they are diving straight into The Last of Us Part II, rather than developing more background details of their own. However, the first season was exceptional and very true to the game, so I’m still as eager as everyone else to find out how they will handle everything.
The Borderlands movie releases today
Today, August 9th, the Borderlands movie is being released, and since it comes from a well-known gaming franchise, we thought it was worth mentioning. However, the reviews have been underwhelming, which isn’t surprising given the trailers. Yet, there’s always a glimmer of hope! Sadly, it appears that hope may not be realized in this case.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Hyrule tour
Nintendo recently unveiled a fresh video showcasing the upcoming title “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” and providing insights into exploring Hyrule and navigating the game world.
As a gamer, I’ve got to admit, this new trailer feels like a more playful take on “Tears of the Kingdom,” and I’m all for it! The gaming community can’t seem to agree on where this game fits in the Hyrule timeline, but honestly, with how twisted that timeline is, I’d rather enjoy the game without worrying about the chronology.
Xbox Game Pass August 2024 wave 1 lineup
I’m thrilled about the games Microsoft is adding to Game Pass in August! These include the revamped Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, the intriguing Creatures of Ava, and the immersive Mafia: Definitive Edition. Can’t wait to dive in!
As a long-time gamer and subscriber to PlayStation Plus, I have to admit that this month’s offerings leave much to be desired. However, I am excited for some of the new titles hitting the market next week! “Creatures of Ava,” “Crash Bandicoot,” and “Mafia” are all games that I’ve been eagerly anticipating, and I can’t wait to get my hands on them starting August 7, 8, and 13 respectively. These titles are sure to provide a much-needed boost to my gaming library, and I have high hopes for their quality based on the trailers and previews I’ve seen so far. While PlayStation Plus may not be living up to its usual standards this month, these new releases more than make up for it in my book!
