Veteran Telugu actress Chittajallu Krishnaveni passes away at 100 due to age-related ailments

On the morning of Sunday, February 16, renowned Telugu actress Chittajallu Krishnaveni passed away at the age of 100. As per reports from 123Telugu, she peacefully left us, leaving behind an indelible mark on the film industry.

Krishnaveni kickstarted her professional journey by portraying Anasuya in the 1936 film “Sati Anasuya – Dhruvavijayam” as a child artist. Over time, she developed into an actress and vocalist who captured people’s hearts with her soothing singing voice.

As reported by Sakshi Post, she eventually wed a landlord from Mirzapuram, a filmmaker who also ran Shobhanachala Studios. In due course, she assumed control of the studio and transitioned into a producer. Her professional life extended over eight decades, during which she appeared in various films such as Sati Anasuya, Daksha Yajna, Bhoja-Kalidasa, Jeevanjyothi, Tukaram, Kacha Devayani, and Manadesam.

She became historic by performing the first Annamayya Keerthana titled “Jo Achyutananda Jojo Mukunda” on the Telugu screen, a feat she accomplished prior to India’s independence when she sang Bhupathi Champithin in Gollabhama.

In the year 1949, she, being a producer, was instrumental in debuting N. T. Rama Rao in the film “Manadesam.” This movie also signified the beginning of Ghantasala’s career as a music director. She significantly contributed to the launch of Ramesh Naidu and singer P. Leela within the film industry. Her daughter, N. R. Anuradha, subsequently ventured into film production under her tutelage.

Krishnaveni put Akkineni Nageswara Rao in the film Keelugurram and produced numerous Telugu movies. Additionally, she created Bhakta Kumbhara in Kannada with Rajkumar. Noteworthy among her productions was the Tamil adaptation of Yamagola, featuring Sivaji Ganesan.

For her significant impact on South Indian film industry, she was honored with the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award by the government of Andhra Pradesh during the administration of Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
