As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the arts, particularly cinema, I find myself deeply saddened by the loss of M Mohan, a veteran filmmaker whose contributions to the Malayalam film industry were nothing short of exceptional. His passing leaves a void that can hardly be filled, not just in the realm of Malayalam cinema, but also in the hearts of those who have been moved by his poignant and thought-provoking works.
On Tuesday, August 27th, esteemed movie director M Mohan, who was 76 years old, sadly passed away in Kochi following a long-term illness. His final breath was taken at a private medical facility.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m sharing an update about a renowned Malayalam filmmaker who was battling certain age-related health issues in the city of Kochi. Unfortunately, he has passed away, leaving behind his beloved wife Anupama and their two sons, Upendhar Mohan and Purandar Mohan.
For those who may not know, M Mohan’s spouse is a renowned Kuchipudi dancer, and she has also acted in films produced in the Malayalam cinema industry.
The unexpected passing of filmmaker M Mohan has created a gaping hole in the movie industry, but his significant films continue to live on, leaving behind an enduring legacy. This talented director began his career in the late ’70s and completed his final project in 2005.
Among the many masterpieces I admire from this esteemed artist are Idavela, Vida Parayum Munpe, Alolam, Theertham, Mukham, Angane Oru Avadhikkalathu, Pakshe, and Mangalam Nerunnu. Each of these works holds a unique charm for me as a dedicated follower.
Most of the movies he released during the 1980s are often regarded as the ‘golden age’ of the Malayalam film industry. This was a period when distinguished directors such as KG George, Bharathan, and Padmarajan, along with others, were leading the way.
Simultaneously, his collaborations with screenwriters Padmarajan and John Paul led to a series of highly praised films, such as “Vida Parayum Munpe.” In this movie, Nedumudi Venu played the leading role, and it was penned by John Paul. This film turned out to be one of M Mohan’s most successful productions.
Conversely, his collaborations with screenwriter Padmarajan led to successful movies such as Shalini Ente Koottukari, Idavela, and Kochu Kochu Thettukal.
In 1978, M Mohan first stepped into the role of director with the release of Vadaka Veedu. Following this, he demonstrated his distinct filmmaking approach in Shalini Ente Koottukari and Randu Penkuttikal, his next two films.
Beyond just directing, I’ve had the pleasure of penning five cinematic masterpieces such as Angene Oru Avadhikkalathu, Mukham, Sruthi, Alolam, and Vida Parayum Munpe. I’ve also lent my creative touch to stories for films like Ithile Iniyum Varu and Kathayariyathe.
