Veera Dheera Sooran’s Arun Kumar reveals Chiyaan Vikram starrer revolves around ‘violence, forgiveness and guilt’; addresses prequel plans

As a dedicated follower of Tamil cinema, I eagerly anticipate Chiyaan Vikram‘s return to the big screen with Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2 in 2025, and the intriguing decision to release the prequel as well. Director Arun Kumar’s approach to storytelling, focusing on the character’s present before delving into their past, reminds me of a wise man telling his life story – he starts with today, then goes back to yesterday!

Actor Chiyaan Vikram will make his comeback on the silver screen with the much-awaited sequel of Veera Dheera Sooran, slated for release in 2025. Notably, a prequel for the movie is also in development, and director Arun Kumar has shed light on this unique approach to filmmaking.

During a chat with Cinema Vikatan, Arun Kumar shared that his initial concept was primarily centered around the sequel. But as he started crafting the movie, various backstories surfaced. For now, we aren’t delving into those details. It’s similar to getting acquainted with someone new; first, we discuss their current circumstances, and later, we delve into their past. In the same vein, this film concentrates on a particular night.

Compared to his last film, Chithha, the director mentioned that it’s tough to fully portray a character based on the events of a single night. In contrast, the protagonist’s storyline in Chithha extended over a substantial period, giving viewers a glimpse into his life. This experience led to the choice to develop further tales set as prequels, providing a deeper look into the characters’ backgrounds.

Arun Kumar unveiled additional information about Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2, stating that the movie combines action with deep emotions. He explained, “This film falls under the genre of action thriller, yet it’s heavily influenced by drama and offers a straightforward storyline. It delves into themes like violence, forgiveness, and guilt, making it an emotionally intense production.” (paraphrased from Tamil)

Vikram, famously known as Chiyaan Vikram, recently appeared in the movie “Thangalaan,” directed by Pa. Ranjith. In this film, he portrayed a powerful tribal leader who confronted a sorceress to assist the British. This action-adventure story also featured Parvathy Thiruvothu and Malavika Mohanan in significant roles.

In Part 2 of Veera Dheera Sooran, Vikram takes on the main character, with Arun Kumar (known for Chithha) directing. Actors SJ Suryah and Suraj Venjaramoodu are also part of the cast, with the latter making his Tamil film debut. Dushara Vijayan and Siddique make up the supporting cast, as filming for the prequel has not yet begun.

In this movie, the soundtrack is created by GV Prakash Kumar, representing their fourth joint project with Vikram, following Deiva Thirumagal, Thaandavam, and Thangalaan.
