Veera Dheera Sooran director SU Arun Kumar recalls how he was thrashed by police after Vikram starrer Dhool’s release

The movie “Veera Dheera Sooran,” starring Chiyaan Vikram, is set to premiere in cinemas on March 27, 2025. Prior to its arrival at the big screen, the team gathered for the trailer launch event, where director SU Arun Kumar shared a captivating story from his past during the occasion.

At the event, Arun Kumar shared a memorable experience from his youth involving a movie screening of Dhool in Madurai. During this time, the film’s director mentioned experiencing hardships, including encounters with law enforcement officials who physically assaulted him on the movie site.

After such a long time, it’s thrilling to collaborate with Vikram again, Arun Kumar expressed his delight. He also noted that it feels like coming full circle since he is now directing the actor in a film.

If you’re not already familiar, the movie titled “Dhool,” starring Chiyaan Vikram, is an action-packed masala film that came out in 2003. This film, written and directed by Dharani, tells the story of Arumugam, a man who moves to the city to protest against water contamination in his rural village.

Yet, he encounters numerous hurdles, including a struggle against unscrupulous politicians and troublemakers to secure justice. Besides Vikram, the film also starred Jyotika, Reema Sen, Vivek, Sayaji Shinde, Telangana Shakuntala, Pasupathy, and several others in prominent roles.

The film was subsequently re-made in Telugu, featuring Ravi Teja, under the title “Veede”, and it also has adaptations in Punjabi and Bengali.

Regarding the forthcoming film titled “Veera Dheera Sooran”, it delves into the life of a local provision store proprietor named Kaali. The movie is scheduled to release in two separate installments.

The film stars Chiyaan Vikram and SJ Suryah prominently, and a host of talented actors such as Suraj Venjaramoodu, Dushara Vijayan, Siddique, Prudhvi Raj, Ramesh Indhira, and Pavel Navageethan, among others, in significant roles.

The movie is being directed by SU Arun Kumar, known for his work in Chithha, and is being financed by Riya Shibu, a popular social media figure, under her production company HR Pictures. GV Prakash Kumar is responsible for the film’s music, while Theni Eshwar and Prasanna GK are handling the cinematography and editing respectively.
