Vanessa Williams and more join Elsbeth season 2 (Watch the trailer!)

As a devoted fan of gripping mysteries and offbeat characters, I can confidently say that the upcoming season 2 of Elsbeth is shaping up to be a true treat! After binge-watching the first season multiple times, I was thrilled to see Carrie Preston reprise her Emmy-winning role as the unconventional yet brilliant Elsbeth Tascioni.

In the newly released trailer for season 2, Elsbeth reappears and encounters several prominent guest stars, who are now part of our beloved detective’s investigations.

2024 saw a shocking TV success story with the return of Carrie Preston as my favorite character, Elsbeth Tascioni, the flamboyantly offbeat lawyer from The Good Wife and The Good Fight. I found myself in New York City, assisting the NYPD, and not long after, I was drawn into a series of murder mysteries, with my unconventional thought process helping me piece together the puzzle clues.

In Season 1, the main storyline revolved around Elsbeth’s undercover mission to scrutinize Captain Wagner (played by Wendell Pierce) for suspected wrongdoing. However, it was eventually revealed that Wagner was not corrupt but rather his so-called friend who was misusing Wagner’s name for criminal activities. The captain, displeased by this revelation, momentarily considered having Elsbeth removed from the situation.

Yet, Wagner found Elsbeth valuable in investigations and allowed her to remain as a police advisor. Additionally, he consented to support Blanke (Carra Patterson) in her pursuit of becoming a detective.

In Season 2, we’ll continue with the distinctive style of the show where the identity of the killer is revealed early on, and the audience watches as Elsbeth unravels the mystery. Moreover, though Season 1 boasted some impressive guest stars, expect an even more stellar lineup in this upcoming season!

As Season 2 begins, just as Elsbeth Tascioni begins to settle into her new life and career in New York, mistakes she made in Chicago come back to haunt her. Officer Blanke (Carra Patterson) and Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce) face challenges of their own as the precinct recovers from last year’s unpleasantness and is shaken up by a meddlesome new lieutenant. Meanwhile, the team is thrown into more odd slices of elite New York as they face off with people who think they can get away with anything.

Who’s coming in Elsbeth season 2?

Confirmed: Nathan Lane is set to make a special appearance in the opening episode of the new season, portraying an ardent opera enthusiast who resorts to drastic measures when a mobile phone disturbs a performance. Known for his Tony and Emmy awards, Lane promises to deliver an outstanding performance, but the trailer hints at other guest stars making their appearance as well.

By the deadline, it’s confirmed that Pamela Adlon will bring Chef Veev, one of New York’s top chefs known for her fiery temperament, to life. A staff member’s secret side gig apparently sabotaged a major deal, causing Chef Veev to explode in anger and commit murder. Now, as Elsbeth, I find myself immersed in the high-stakes culinary world.

In a well-known role from “Ugly Betty,” Vanessa Williams portrays a character who is both fashionable and extremely wealthy in an exclusive jewelry store. However, behind the scenes, she’s financially struggling. Roselyn masterminds a scheme involving fellow VIP members to carry out a series of robberies. The situation escalates when one member threatens to reveal their secret crimes, leading to potentially lethal consequences.

Comedian Rob Riggle is Neal Dorsey, “a billionaire who made his fortune as a paint manufacturer but is considered “uncool” by his fellow billionaires.” When one dies in a freak accident while training for a space mission, Elsbeth wonders if it was murder.

Finally, Brittany O’Grady is a former child star and current tabloid party girl, Mackenzie “Mac” Andrews, who wakes up on Halloween to wonder if she committed a murder. This looks like a spin on the usual formula as not only Elsbeth and the viewers but O’Grady herself wonders what really happened.

It seems quite probable that we’ll see more prominent guest stars in the upcoming season, and the trailer hints at Elsbeth continuing her distinctive personality adjusting to life in New York. Blanke stays steadfast by her side, while the detective team appears to be on a different CBS series altogether. In essence, the second season of Elsbeth promises to deliver an engaging continuation of one of CBS’ top-rated mystery shows.

Elsbeth season 2 premieres Thursday October 17 at 10/9c on CBS.
