Behind the curtains, Valve is secretly working on a new project, which goes by the name “Project White Sands”. While fans have been guessing about what this could mean, recent leaks from a Valve data miner suggest that Half-Life 3 might not be such an outlandish assumption after all.
Valve’s Project “White Sands” Data Leaked
For years, Valve Corporation has excelled at keeping secrets, and their most recent endeavor, codenamed “Project White Sands,” follows suit. However, a careless remark from a voice actor has once again brought this project to public attention, sparking a flurry of speculation among fans.
One of the voice actors involved in “Project White Sands” inadvertently listed the project on her online resume, unaware that it hadn’t been officially announced. Despite subsequent updates to the website, the earlier version can still be found using the WayBack Machine archive.
The investigation and examination of “Project White Sands” were conducted by Tyler McViker, a renowned explorer of Valve’s secret ventures.
In his latest video, he discusses uncovering that a new single-player game titled “Project White Sands” is connected to the team who created Half-Life: Alyx. This project, known internally as “HLX,” has been under development since the launch of Half-Life: Alyx more than four years ago.
At first, there was uncertainty about whether HLX represented a full game or merely a technical aspect or tool within the game engine. Some speculated it could be the latter. However, with such a large amount of data leaks, we’re nearly positive that HLX is likely a fully-fledged, non-VR Half-Life game. The same goes for McVicker.
