As a long-time PC gamer with thousands of hours invested in Valorant, I’m thrilled to see the game finally making its way to consoles. The open beta launch is a significant milestone that broadens the game’s reach and allows a whole new audience to experience its strategic gameplay. However, the lack of crossplay between PC and console platforms is a disappointment.
Since its release on PCs in 2020, Valorant by Riot Games has held PC gamers spellbound. Now, this popular tactical shooter is moving to consoles, with open beta versions newly available for PlayStation and Xbox users. This marks a notable advancement in the game’s growth. Console gamers in Brazil, Canada, Europe, Japan, and the USA now get their chance to try out the initial console beta version of Valorant.

With the console launch, more people can access the game and enjoy its strategic features. However, it’s worth mentioning that PC and console versions won’t be compatible for multiplayer (so-called “crossplay”). Riot Games prioritizes fairness and consistency among players by keeping each platform separate in this aspect. Nevertheless, gamers on PlayStation and Xbox can still play together within their respective console communities.
If you’re moving from a PC to a console for gaming and are concerned about your Riot Games account, here’s some positive news: When you sign into the console edition with your existing Riot Games account, you’ll keep all your skins, agents, and other items. This consistency means that the money you spent on the game remains worthwhile, regardless of the platform change.
The console beta testing for Valorant will carry on *for an unspecified period of time*. According to Riot Games, they will end the beta once they are completely content with the game’s functionality and have received sufficient input from players.
As a console gamer excited about the latest update, I can’t help but notice the addition of an enticing new shooting mode named “Focus.” This innovative feature is tailor-made for us console gamers, providing an experience akin to the “Hip Fire” setting on PC, yet with the added comfort of decreased sensitivity. The goal here is to improve both gameplay accuracy and ease for console users, making our gaming sessions even more enjoyable.

Moving forward, Valorant’s console journey appears promising according to Riot Games. They view the console launch as a long-term commitment, with executive producer Andy Ho explaining, “We’re just starting out, so to speak. Valorant isn’t a game with a set expiration date for us. Instead, we plan to continuously put effort into it, ensuring that players’ investment in the game remains valuable.”
