Fans eagerly awaited its release at the start of 2025, following rumors from pros that the upcoming playable character is overpowered (OP) and superior to Jett, Yoru, and Reyna collectively. However, Riot Games has finally disclosed the new character, and while Waylay for Valorant Agent 28 isn’t terrible, some fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with its abilities.
Valorant fans disappointed with Agent 28 Waylay abilities
The official abilities for Valorant Agent 28, Waylay, are as follows:
- Refract
- Instantly create a beacon of light on the floor. Reactivate to speed back to your beacon as a mote of pure light. You are invulnerable as you travel.
- Light Speed
- Equip to prepare for a burst of speed. Fire to dash forward twice. Alt fire to dash once. Only your first dash can send you upward.
- Saturate
- Instantly throw a cluster of light that explodes upon contact with the ground, hindering nearby players with a powerful movement and weapon slow.
- Convergent Paths
- Equip to focus your prismatic power. Fire to create an afterimage of yourself that projects a beam of light in Valorant. After a brief delay, you gain a powerful speed boost and the beam expands, hindering other players in the area.
Many people are criticizing Riot for repeatedly modifying or refining existing champions’ abilities, implying that the developer may be running out of fresh ideas. One person even stated, “This is disappointing. There’s nothing new, just old abilities reorganized into something different,” while another added, “Why are we giving abilities a new coat of paint? They lack any unique characteristics.
Despite some fan’s anticipation potentially being dampened, it was likely that revamped abilities were inevitable given the hints by Valorant pros suggesting Agent 28 is a blend of past Duelists. Here’s hoping this fresh character distinguishes itself when launched on March 5th; however, at present, fans seem unimpressed.
