As a die-hard USC Trojans fan with years of invested passion and emotions into this esteemed institution, I must admit that the latest development regarding Miller Moss‘ transfer has left me feeling somewhat disheartened. The young QB’s decision to pursue opportunities elsewhere, albeit understandable for his personal growth as a player, is undeniably a significant blow to our team’s prospects.
USC Trojans are dealing with another hurdle in their season as quarterback Miller Moss has officially announced his decision to move to a different team via the transfer portal. The Big Ten Conference competitors of the NCAA have had a modest beginning to their new campaign, currently ranking 11th in B1G, having lost five out of their last seven games. So, what prompted Moss to switch loyalties mid-season?
Here’s everything you need to know regarding the young QB’s decision to part ways with USC.
Miller Moss announces his entry to transfer portal
On Monday, Miller Moss announced that he intends to leave the Trojans and has entered the player transfer portal. In a comprehensive statement, Moss shared that his motivation for this move is to further develop himself as a quarterback by seeking opportunities elsewhere.
22-year-old soccer player Miller Moss expressed gratitude to his teammates and coaches before explaining why he’s leaving the university. “Becoming a USC Trojan was a longstanding aspiration of mine,” Moss said. “Wearing the cardinal and gold, competing alongside my fellow players, and representing my school has always been something I held dear and will continue to be proud of. Every ounce of my energy and effort went into this endeavor — physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually — and I’m incredibly humbled by, as well as proud of, what we achieved together.” Moss then announced his intention to submit a transfer request.
Onward.

Originally brought on as a backup quarterback for the Trojans, he was second-in-command to veteran Caleb Williams last season. However, this term, he seized the starting role and guided his team to a victory over LSU in their opening game of 2024. Unfortunately, Moss was later replaced by sophomore Jayden Maiava following a difficult loss against Washington.
After choosing to transfer as a graduate student, Miller Moss will only have one remaining year of college eligibility. Since joining USC, he’s started 10 games and has had an impressive performance so far. As USC’s quarterback, Moss has completed passes totaling 3,469 yards with 27 touchdowns in his short career to date. Given his strong record, many teams are likely to be interested in recruiting him during his time on the transfer portal.
