As a dedicated fan of Colman Domingo’s captivating performances, I am absolutely thrilled to see him stepping into new roles behind and in front of the camera. His versatility is nothing short of astounding, from his gripping portrayal of Muncie Daniels in The Madness to his directorial debut with Scandalous. And let’s not forget about the much-anticipated third season of Euphoria, where he shares the screen with the talented Sydney Sweeney yet again.
In an interview with Deadline about his new series “The Madness,” acclaimed actor Colman Domingo shared exciting news about his first directorial project, titled “Scandalous.
The show titled “The Madness” is an exclusive, self-produced Netflix series where Domingo takes on the role of media commentator Muncie Daniels. In this series, Daniels finds himself entangled in a murder mystery in the Poconos and becomes a person of interest. This eight-episode action-packed thriller can now be streamed on Netflix, with notable actors like Stephanie Blake (When They See Us, Orange Is the New Black), Gabrielle Graham (Twenties, 21 Thunder), John Ortiz (Silver Linings Playbook), Tamsin Topolski (The Diplomat), and Thaddeus J. Mixon also starring in it.
In a surprising collaboration, team Domingo will partner with his Euphoria co-star Sydney Sweeney. He will direct, while she will produce and take on the leading role, similar to her recent film, Anyone But You. The movie revolves around the tumultuous love story between Sammy Davis Jr. and Kim Novak, titled Scandalous. Domingo reveals that production for Scandalous will start after they finish filming season 3 of Euphoria, which is expected to conclude in the summer of 2025.
Colman Domingo – Euphoria
The show “Euphoria” is a teen drama that explores relationships, grief, sex, and drug addiction in the fictional town of East Highland, California. Domingo takes on the role of Ali, a mentor in Narcotics Anonymous, while Sweeney portrays Cassie Howard, a high school student. Viewers are excitedly counting down the days for season 3’s premiere; however, they must be patient as filming won’t start until January 2025.
Domingo shared with Deadline that Sweeney invited him for the Scandalous project as she believed they would make a good team. This narrative revolves around Sweeney, portrayed by Novak from Vertigo, and David Jonsson as Sammy Davis Jr., depicting their love story. Their relationship blossomed after they crossed paths on The Steve Allen Show, where they were both featured guests. Subsequently, whispers started circulating, and the deep-seated racism in America jeopardized their respective careers.
This year is shaping up to be quite significant for Domingo. He’s got numerous projects underway. He will be playing Joe Jackson in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic titled “_Michael_,” and he plans to write, direct, and play the lead role as Nat King Cole in another biopic.
On March 15th, he will appear in the movie “The Electric State,” directed by the Russo Brothers. This film features a talented cast including Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Giancarlo Esposito, and Stanley Tucci.
