The movie “Minmini,” directed by Halitha Shameem, is a deeply moving and impactful drama that delves into the intricate feelings of survivor’s guilt in a sincere and profound manner over an astonishing eight-year span. The production style ensured a smooth progression from the characters’ childhood to their maturity, as it was filmed in two separate phases – 2015 and 2022.
The filmmakers temporarily halted production in order to give the young talents, Esther Anil, Praveen Kishore, and Gaurav Kaalai, time to mature before reprising their roles as adults. According to the director’s tweet, “We found these young actors so incredibly authentic that we decided to wait a few years for them to grow up, instead of casting new actors to portray their adult counterparts.”
In the lead roles of Minmini are the child artists Gaurav Kalai, Pravin Kishore, and Esther Anil. Halitha, who had previously auditioned 2,000 children for her film Poovarasam Pee Pee, found these promising young talents to be an inspiring pick for her next venture.
The technical crew includes cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa, who also serves as co-producer, and editor Raymond Derrick Crasta. The music for the film is composed by Khatija Rahman, making her debut in film music. Her father, the renowned A.R. Rahman, also attended the special premiere of Minmini.
