Upcoming South OTT releases in March 2025 on Amazon Prime, Netflix, ZEE5, and more: Vidaamuyarchi to Rekhachithram

2025 has only been two months old, yet it’s clear that the Southern film industries have started the year off strong. Notable movies such as Daaku Maharaj, Marco, and others have made quite an impact on the streaming platforms as well.

South Indian OTT releases in March

1. Vidaamuyarchi

  • Cast: Ajith Kumar, Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, Regina Cassandra, Arav

Among this year’s Tamil films, Vidaamuyarchi stands as one of the most significant releases. Starring Ajith Kumar and Trisha Krishnan in lead roles for the first time since 2015, the movie presents an estranged couple embarking on a final road trip. Along their journey, Trisha’s character is abducted by local thugs, leaving it to Ajith to devise a rescue plan for his wife. The central plot revolves around his efforts to save her. Vidaamuyarchi will premiere on streaming platforms on March 3rd.

2. Rekhachithram

  • Cast: Asif Ali, Anaswara Rajan, Siddique, Manoj K Jayan, Zarin Shihab
  • Where to watch: SonyLIV

This year, Rekhachithram, directed by Jobin T Chacko, is arguably the most significant Malayalam film to have been released yet. It’s a unique take on alternative history, centering around a police investigation into a murder allegation made by a writer. As the investigation unfolds, it leads the officer back in time to the film sets of Mammootty’s Kathodu Kathoram from 1985, where an aspiring actress mysteriously disappears. The film will be available for streaming starting March 7th.

3. Sankranthiki Vasthunam

  • Cast: Venkatesh Daggubati, Aishwarya Rajesh, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Srinivasa Reddy

In January this year, Anil Ravipudi’s action-comedy movie titled “Sankranthiki Vasthunam” premiered in cinemas. The plot centers around Damodara Raju, a former Director General of Police, who is asked by his ex-lover and current Assistant Commissioner of Police, Meenakshi, to probe the kidnapping of an MNC CEO. Yet, when Damodara Raju’s wife becomes aware of this, she demands to accompany him out of concern that he might rekindle their past relationship.

4. Kudumbasthan

  • Cast: Manikandan, Prasanna Balachandran, Saanve Megghana, R Sundarajan

Earlier this year, the movie titled “Kudumbasthan” hit the silver screen. This thought-provoking film was directed by Rajeshwar Kaliswamy. The narrative revolves around a lower to middle-class individual who finds himself unemployed and grappling with familial strife as well as growing financial obligations. As he strives to rebuild his life while expecting a new addition to the family, the core of the story unfolds.

5. Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse

  • Cast: Mammootty, Gokul Suresh, Viji Venkatesh, Sushmitha Bhatt, Vineeth

The movie titled “Dominic and the Lady’s Purse” premiered on January 23rd, marking Gautham Vasudev Menon’s first foray into Malayalam cinema. This film is a mix of humor and investigation, starring Mammootty as the main character. The story revolves around Dominic who sets out to find the owner of a lady’s purse. However, his quest leads him down a path of crime, eventually transforming into a murder investigation. The remaining part of the story unfolds as Dominic solves the mystery.

6. Officer on Duty

  • Cast: Kunchacko Boban, Priayamani, Jagadish, Vishak Nair, Meenakshi Anoop
  • Where to watch: Netflix

On February 20th, the crime thriller movie “Officer on Duty” made its debut in cinemas. The story centers around a police officer who’s been demoted, investigating a case involving counterfeit gold. As he delves deeper into the investigation, he uncovers a tangled web of criminal activities, some of which have connections to his own past. Due to its success, the film is scheduled for another release later this month.
