Discussions about a possible sequel to the just-released action-comedy film titled “Back in Action” have emerged, and its director Seth Gordon has recently shared insights on how the movie’s ending might pave the way for “Back in Action 2.” Featuring unexpected twists throughout and starring Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, and Kyle Chandler, the film has sparked curiosity about the creative decisions behind casting Chandler. In a recent interview, Gordon offered insights into these choices while hinting at potential developments for a sequel.
Seth Gordon talks Back in Action’s Kyle Chandler twist and ending
During our latest conversation, the director shared that they chose Kyle Chandler for the villain role to keep viewers on their toes.
In the final stretch of my gaming adventure, Back in Action, I uncovered a shocking twist: it was old Chuck, Chandler’s buddy, who had deceived Matt and Emily to grab the mysterious key. Now, speaking with Radio Times, director Seth Gordon has shed light on why he picked this character for his betrayal.
The director expressed that Kyle Chandler is most recognized for his role in Friday Night Lights, portraying an “aw shucks” good guy. Consequently, he’s seldom seen in comedies and even less often as the antagonist. However, the director felt that Chandler was ideal for the unanticipated villainous role. Later, the director commended Andrew Scott, stating that he was an excellent choice for a character who could be a misleading clue.
Gordon reflects on Back in Action 2 plans
In his elaboration, Seth Gordon discussed the second unexpected turn in the finale of Back in Action. Here, Andrew Scott’s character, Baron, discloses to the secret pair about Emily’s enigmatic dad. He explains that they will be required to undertake a new mission, with Emily’s father serving as the focal point of the turmoil.
Gordon clarified that Baron seemed integral to the storyline, serving as a means to involve other characters. This idea eventually developed into the character of ‘dad’. Furthermore, he hinted at potential plans for Back in Action 2, mentioning he’s been brainstorming concepts and possible actors for the role, but kept coy about it.
As I type this, the makers of Back in Action haven’t confirmed a release date for the sequel, nor have they officially announced it.
