Audience members are eager to discover details about the enigmatic extraterrestrial beings, known as Creepers, who take center stage in Bong Joon Ho’s latest film titled Mickey 17. This science fiction story revolves around Mickey Barnes, a character who signs up for the Expendable program to undertake dangerous missions, only to find himself repeatedly resurrected after each perilous task. Upon his arrival on the frigid planet of Niflheim, he encounters terrifying creatures that share an unsettling bond with the soil of the planet. Below you will find comprehensive information about them.
What are the Creepers in Mickey 17?
In the realm of gaming lore, I’ve always known that Creepers hail from the mystical world of Niflheim. These guys were already settled there, long before my fellow explorers and I stumbled upon it.
Mickey, along with other human explorers, uncovered the existence of strange beings while traversing the planet’s surface. A former politician named Kenneth Marshall, who aims to colonize their world, dubbed them “Creepers.” This name was chosen due to their unsettling appearance, and the characters consistently referred to them as such in the film. The creatures had a clear objective—they sought to improve the planet’s future and ensure they wouldn’t be taken over by Marshall.
It seems that the principal Creeper is noticeably larger than other beings in its species. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Joon Ho explained how these creatures differ from one another. He stated, “I designed three distinct types of creepers: the mothers, the young ones, and the infants. These are different age categories of creepers.” He also shared that the designs for each group were influenced by a croissant, a visual reference he provided to the creature designer.
Can the Creepers kill humans with their scream?
No, Creepers cannot kill humans with their scream.
At first, Mickey 17 was led to believe that the Creeper’s screams could be lethal to humans. Later on, it became clear that this was a deception and their screeching wasn’t a warning of danger. Instead, they are a benign species who wanted to live in harmony with humans. Previously, Mickey 17 assumed the Creeper’s lack of attempt to harm him might be because he was unappetizing due to his regenerative abilities. However, it turns out that they never intended to harm him; rather, their intention was to prevent Marshall from causing chaos on their planet.
