I, as a devoted admirer, am thrilled to share that Marco, featuring the talented Unni Mukundan, is currently enjoying a triumphant run in cinemas and has earned the title of a blockbuster. Due to the movie’s remarkable success, I was honored with an invitation for an interview on Tried & Refused Productions’ YouTube channel, hosted by the esteemed Anmol Jamwal.
During our chat, the actor was questioned about his perspective on why Malayalam films often fail to thrive in cinemas of Hindi-speaking areas, even though they frequently receive fantastic reviews following their online streaming debut, with a few notable exceptions such as Kalapani and Marco.
Unni Mukundan explained that he believes the main reason for this is due to budget constraints. He mentioned that when presenting an idea, it’s essential to have proven examples to back it up. When aiming for a movie to achieve commercial success, action films are often chosen as they can more easily captivate a larger audience.
To create a top-notch action movie, you require an actor who is eager to star in such a project. Moreover, it’s crucial that the movie doesn’t feel limited by its regional origins. Keeping these aspects in mind, you need a producer who can appeal to a wider audience, and this demands a dynamic individual with equal fervor as the actor, to drive the film towards success.
To put it simply, he emphasized that since people from Kerala are accustomed to consuming diverse content, they also desire fresh, unexpected creations that might surprise the market.
On the other hand, Unni Mukundan voiced his appreciation for Hindi-speaking audiences, stating that he considers them one of the most adaptable groups. Admiring their character and openness towards South Indian films in dubbed versions, the actor underscored how this acceptance encourages him to consider a sequel for Marco with optimism.
Besides his remarks, it’s worth noting that the actor mentioned that the triumph of their film appears to boost the morale of his peers like Prithviraj Sukumaran and Tovino Thomas too.
