In the Season 2 finale of “House of the Dragon“, Tyland Lannister embarked on a journey beyond the Narrow Sea. To lift the blockade in the Gullet, the Greens must seek help from the Triarchy. The Triarchy is likely to set sail only if commanded by Sharako Lohar. However, it’s important to note that the people within the tent referred to this character as “he”, but we encountered someone who was undoubtedly female.
Abigail Thorn assumes a new position. However, this isn’t a significant departure from “Fire & Blood”. The character of Lohar is scarcely featured in the book, with only one reference using the male pronoun ‘he’. Yet, the men within the tent spoke these words, and we encounter a woman who Tyland Lannister had to confront. This hints that people beyond the Narrow Sea may not strictly adhere to gender roles.
Who is Sharako Lohar in House of the Dragon?
We know very little about Lohar, except that they are a commander of the Three Daughters. This is the banner that the 90 warships sail under, as they include Myrish, Tyroshi, and Lysene people. This is why there are three men who Tyland talks to in the finale.
In the grand takeover, the Three Daughters chose to support Aegon’s cause. However, one must wonder if they will keep their word. According to “Fire & Blood,” they indeed did, but such loyalty came with a price.
It’s intriguing that, although Lohar appears female to us, the leaders of the three cities regard Lohar as male. This situation might spark discussions about the transgender community beyond the Narrow Sea.
Tyland holds Lohar in high regard because he realizes Lohar isn’t someone to be belittled, even when facing fierce opposition. Tyland’s respectful behavior towards Lohar is so profound that Lohar considers Tyland as a potential partner for their wives. The exact number of wives isn’t specified, but it could have been a long and exhausting night for Tyland Lannister.
Regardless of gender, Lohar commands respect and admiration from the men, and it quickly becomes apparent why this is so upon their initial encounter.
