The French action-horror film “Under Paris” created quite a stir on Netflix, quickly climbing to the top spot and amassing over 40 million views in its debut week. Now, five months after the announcement of a sequel, we have some thrilling news about “Under Paris 2.”
In the action-packed French film “Beneath the Parisian Waters,” Parisians were forced to swim for survival when the Seine was filled with dangerous sharks. The movie received a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, garnering mixed opinions. Critics admired it as an entertaining addition to the shark movie genre. However, others criticized its plot as being disjointed and expressed a desire for the underwater storyline to not be so serious.
Given the impressive viewership figures during its debut week, it’s not surprising that Under Paris is set for a follow-up. With the previous film concluding on a dramatic edge, we’re eagerly awaiting the unfolding of events in the sequel.
What’s the Latest Under Paris 2 update?
Initially, when it was announced that Under Paris 2 was in development, director Xavier Gens hinted at a dramatic change for the city, stating it would be entirely submerged under water. However, after five months without any updates, Variety recently reported that the upcoming Netflix film is currently at the script-writing stage.
The delay in starting production for Under Paris 2 might be due to director Xavier Gens preparing a nine-week shoot for Lady Chang, a Thailand-set thriller being picked up by Prime Video. This movie follows a former war photographer dealing with PTSD who finds solace at an elephant sanctuary, only to become embroiled in a trafficking scheme that forces her to fight for justice at great personal risk. As production on Lady Chang begins on May 12, it’s possible the script for Under Paris 2 won’t be completed until the shooting for the Prime Video thriller is done.
