UK Court Dismisses Craig Wright’s Application to Appeal COPA vs CSW Case

As a seasoned crypto investor with more than a decade of experience under my belt, I have to say that the latest twist in the Satoshi Nakamoto saga is as intriguing as it is frustrating. Craig Wright’s persistent claims to be Bitcoin’s creator have been met with skepticism and legal battles, and his recent appeal denial only adds fuel to the fire.

Following his unsuccessful attempt to force Bitcoin developers to submit to him through the UK courts, Australian entrepreneur Craig Steven Wright (CSW) has been refused an appeal application. As stated in a court document dated November 29, a Judge from the UK’s Court of Appeal decided that no further hearing was necessary because all the evidence presented by Wright indicates he is not Satoshi Nakamoto.

The judge needed to determine if Dr. Wright truly is the individual using the alias Satoshi Nakamoto, as he alleges. This person is said to have written and published the original Bitcoin White Paper on October 31, 2008, developed the first version of the Bitcoin Source Code, and created the Bitcoin system. The judge viewed this as a matter of fact. In the court’s findings, it was concluded that Dr. Wright was not, in fact, Satoshi Nakamoto.

Closer Look at the COPA vs Wright Case

Earlier reports by Coinspeaker stated that Justice James Mellor determined that Craig Wright did not pen Bitcoin’s whitepaper, making him neither the author nor the creator known as Satoshi Nakamoto. Unhappy with this verdict, Wright has since submitted an application for an appeal.

Furthermore, Wright posits that the Bitcoin core developers have altered the initial characteristics of the network via multiple updates, such as Taproot and SegWit. However, the evidence he provided did not fully exonerate him as Satoshi Nakamoto.

As per the Judge’s statement, Wright submitted false documentation to the court, which failed to substantiate any of his allegations. In response, Wright contended that the Judge had previously shown bias in their decision made this year.

In the meantime, the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) alleges that Wright breached the court order in his recent case. Additionally, Wright persists in stating that he is owed $1 trillion by Bitcoin core developers, as he claims to be the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto.

As a result, the court has scheduled a two-day hearing in London on December 18, 2024, to decide if the recent case breached the injunction. Since the appeal case was declined, Wright can choose to continue with the case in the UK’s Supreme Court, but legal experts predict that the decision made will remain unchanged.

Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

The real identity of the Bitcoin creator has remained unknown since its inception more than 15 years ago. Earlier last month, Home Box Office (HBO), an American pay television network, attempted to doxx Satoshi Nakamoto but failed terribly. Furthermore, HBO argued that Peter Todd is the real Bitcoin creator but he vehemently denied the claims.

As a financial analyst, I find it immaterial who Satoshi Nakamoto truly is, given that the vast majority of Bitcoins are in the hands of prominent investors often referred to as “whales.
