In the realm of sci-fi, dystopian action films, I’ve found a gem hailing from Kannada cinema – “UI”. This masterpiece, premiered in theaters on the 20th of December last year, was skillfully directed by none other than Upendra. In the lead role alongside him is Reeshma Nanaiah, along with other esteemed actors. After its triumphant run in theaters, enthusiasts like myself have been eagerly anticipating its digital release. Now, I’m thrilled to share that we finally have a date for its streaming debut!
When and where to watch UI
As per OTTPlay reports, Upendra’s UI is expected to begin streaming on ZEE5 starting from March 30. Yet, the production team has not officially announced a specific release date.
Official trailer and plot of UI
The film “UI” explores themes such as intelligence, identity, and societal expectations through a sci-fi dystopian lens. The narrative centers around Kiran Adarsh (played by Murali Sharma), who is motivated by Sunaina (Nidhi Subbaiah) to evaluate a movie. As he does so, the film’s deeper layers of perspective and manipulation start to surface.
In the story, focus moves to characters Satya and Kalki, both played by Upendra. Satya symbolizes morality and equality, while Kalki embodies transformation and discord. Their adventure dives into topics like caste, religion, and societal evolution, influenced by Basavanna and Kalki. The movie additionally scrutinizes the effects of technological progress, mining, and ecological degradation. It depicts the ruin of Mother Nature (Prakriti) and the arrival of Kalki as a reaction to this destruction.
Cast and crew of UI
The movie titled “UI” was penned and helmed by Upendra, while it was jointly produced by G. Manoharan, Sreekanth K. P., and Bhaumik Gondaliya. H. C. Venugopal takes charge of the film’s cinematography, with Vijay Raj B. G. serving as the editor. The music for this production is created by B. Ajaneesh Loknath.
Upendra takes on the characters of Sathya, Kalki, and himself, while a talented group of actors join him. Reeshma Nanaiah portrays Nandini, Sadhu Kokila is cast as Joker, and Murali Sharma plays Kiran Adarsh. The film boasts additional performances from Vinayak Trivedi, Indrajit Lankesh, Nidhi Subbaiah, Om Sai Prakash, Guruprasad, P. Ravi Shankar as Vaamana Rao, Achyuth Kumar, Hamsa Prathap, Neetu, and Lasya Nagraj in significant roles.
