As a long-time gamer with memories of countless hours spent in the vibrant world of Ubisoft games, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia upon hearing the news about XDefiant‘s sunset and the closure of several Ubisoft studios.
Reports indicate that Ubisoft is planning to shut down XDefiant, their multiplayer first-person shooting game. Additionally, the company has decided to close its offices in San Francisco and Osaka, resulting in job losses for approximately 270 employees.
On Ubisoft’s website, you can learn about the cancellation of XDefiant. Today marks the beginning of its sunset process, meaning no new downloads or purchases are possible. However, the servers will continue to function until June 3, 2025. If you purchased the Ultimate Founders Pack, any DLC or VC after November 3, you’ll get a complete refund. As planned, Season 3 is still set to launch.
In a company-wide email, Marie-Sophie de Waubert, the Chief Studios and Portfolio Officer of Ubisoft, announced that certain studios would be shutting down. She expressed her heartfelt appreciation to those employees leaving the company for their hard work and contributions. Additionally, Ubisoft plans to scale back operations at its Sydney office in Australia.
