Two huge DBD killers might never join 2v8 mode due to potential licensing issues

As a dedicated Dead By Daylight enthusiast with countless hours spent slashing through survivors and escaping the Entity’s grasp, I can’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment at the prospect of my beloved Resident Evil killers, Nemesis and Wesker, never gracing the 2v8 mode.

2v8 of Dead By Daylight is back with Behaviour’s second version, available until November 26th, but expect further iterations in the future, each one enriching the player experience with additional content. While fans hope for licensed killers in the Limited Time Mode, Behaviour has mentioned challenges that make this difficult, and it seems like two highly anticipated DBD licensed killers might not be included in the 2v8 mode due to current limitations.

Speaking as an enthusiastic fan, I wanted to share some exciting news about the upcoming events in Dead by Daylight. The Long-Term Memorial (LTM) is set to grace us for just a couple of weeks starting soon! This means we can look forward to earning a whopping 500K Bloodpoints daily just from logging in, and even more when combined with the active November 2024 codes.

Looking ahead to Chapter 34 and all the exciting things BeHaviour has in store for us this month, we’ll feel a pang as 2v8 mode prepares to depart within a few weeks. Its upcoming exit is regrettable, but fear not, it will return, and maybe someday we’ll get the incorporation of Dead By Daylight licensed killers. Unfortunately, the introduction of Resident Evil rogues seems unlikely.

Dead By Daylight 2v8 might not get licensed Resident Evil killers

For Behaviour Interactive, incorporating licensed killers into the 2v8 mode of Dead by Daylight presents a complex hurdle due to the intricacies of obtaining and managing licenses.

Additionally, Cote conceded that each copyright holder retains the power to decline participation if they feel their property is being used excessively or unwillingly. Although it’s unfortunate when some copyright holders refuse to allow their characters to collaborate with others, Cote mentioned that “some are on board and even eager to see their creations become part of something we consider a significant milestone in Dead By Daylight”.

The good news from the interview is that some licensors are happy for their killer to eventually join 2v8. However, the bad news is that some licensors are not happy with the idea, and thus certain licensed killers may never join 2v8 mode for any iteration.

It’s intriguing that Cote mentioned “Nemesis” since it could be that two potential killers in a match might not participate in 2v8 are characters from Resident Evil. As pointed out by Dvveet, unfortunately, the William Birkin skin cannot be used for The Blight in 2v8 version 2.0.

According to leaks, it appears that Legion will be included among the killers in the upcoming 2v8 version 3.0. However, Dvveet has hinted that the character Hunk from The Legion may not function properly within this game mode. Since both William Birkin and Hunk are officially licensed characters from Resident Evil, their limitations in 2v8 suggest that Nemesis and Wesker might not be incorporated into the 2v8 mode.

It’s unknown if any licensed characters recognized as killers will participate in 2v8 mode down the line, but it seems a missed opportunity not to include the Nemesis and Wesker. They are two highly influential killers from a globally renowned horror video game franchise, and they are adored icons among fans.
