As a long-time supporter of the vibrant VTuber community, I find myself deeply troubled by Twitch’s recent decision to ban Fallenshadow (Shondo). Having witnessed her growth and resilience over time, I can’t help but feel a sense of injustice.
The announcement that Twitch suspended VTuber fallenshadow (Shondo) for 30 days has faced strong disapproval within the VTuber community. The main concerns revolve around accusations of biased treatment and uneven application of rules on the platform.
Update: According to StreamerBans, fallenshadow has been unbanned from Twitch after only one and a half days.
Reason for the Ban
Fallenshadow was temporarily suspended from streaming on Twitch due to excessive drinking, which Twitch deemed as harmful behavior. This ban not only halts her income generation, but also requires her subscribers to resubscribe once her suspension is over.
Alongside her worries about the future, Shondo’s actions might be why she was categorized as self-harm. To make things clearer, in another post she mentioned:
“I’m afraid for the future because I always have the niggling thought that all of my friends will leave me or everyone will leave me or things will get worse because eventually my meds will stop working. That doesn’t mean I want to hurt myself in any way or plan on it.”
VTuber Community Response
As a gamer myself, I can’t help but notice the perceived inconsistency in Twitch’s rules. Bao put it perfectly when they said, “Twitch seems to turn a blind eye when their favorite gamers use inappropriate language, yet a mere mention of mental health during a streaming session results in a 30-day suspension.” Pipkin Pippa added fuel to the fire by suggesting, “It feels like someone at Twitch has it out for me.
Twitch has not commented beyond the initial email, and the ban remains in place.
