Twisters Director Denies Steven Spielberg Axed Kissing Scene With Glen Powell & Daisy Edgar-Jones

Director Lee Isaac Chung has clarified speculations about Steven Spielberg influencing the removal of a closing kissing scene in Twisters, stating it was not due to his involvement.

2024’s Twisters film left many viewers divided, particularly due to the absence of a romantic kiss between Glen Powell’s and Daisy Edgar-Jones‘ characters towards the end. Although their reunion suggested a budding romance in the finale, fans were disappointed as they had anticipated a kiss following their movie experience.

At first, there were whispers that Steven Spielberg, having consulted with Chung on the project, might have been responsible for the choice. Yet, several months down the line, during a movie screening in Toronto followed by a Q&A session, Chung clarified that he wasn’t involved.

What did Lee Isaac Chung say about the Twisters kiss?

When inquired about the topic, Chung playfully suggested that Spielberg himself favored the scene with the kiss, however, following numerous screenings and audience feedback that was split, they ultimately opted to remove it from the final version of the film.

Chung stated, “What you’re suggesting isn’t accurate. We were the ones who filmed it, and even Spielberg expressed his desire for the kiss. He exclaimed, ‘I hope this turns out well!’ We discovered that the scene was extremely divisive. In such situations, I usually advise against fear…but this time, it was a challenge. A large group of people, including studios, had reservations about whether the film should include a kiss. However, it wasn’t Spielberg. He’s as romantic as I am.

In addition to Powell and Edgar-Jones, the cast of Twisters includes Anthony Ramos portraying Javi, Maura Tierney as Cathy, Brandon Perea as Boone, Daryl McCormack as Jeb, Sasha Lane as Lily, Kiernan Shipka as Addy, Nik Dodani as Praveen, David Corenswet as Scott, Harry Hadden-Paton as Ben, Tunde Adebimpe as Dexter, and Katy O’Brian as Dani.
