In January, Donald Trump issued an executive order to prolong the potential TikTok ban in the U.S. Shortly after being inaugurated as President, this extension sparked discussions about who might foot the bill for purchasing the video-sharing platform. Currently, Trump is pushing back the deadline by an additional 75 days.
Today, Donald Trump issued an executive order delaying ByteDance’s original deadline to transfer TikTok’s U.S. operations until June 19, 2025. In a post on Truth Social, he mentioned that the agreement needs more effort to make sure all necessary approvals are in place, and that some progress has been made.
Previously this year, Trump stated that Microsoft was discussing purchasing TikTok. This week, Amazon has also put forth an offer for the social media site.
Looking forward to seeing more TikTok content now that it’s been given another extension! The temporary shutdown earlier this year in the U.S. had some unexpected consequences, like a sudden outage for Marvel Snap, which forced Second Dinner – the developer – to part ways with their publisher and take on publishing duties themselves.
