Trump Claims Taylor Swift Disappeared Because He Said She Was No Longer Hot

For quite some time now, the long-standing disagreement between Taylor Swift and Donald Trump has escalated, with the former president frequently weighing in on various aspects of her career, private life, and political views. His comments sometimes appear more like the angry remarks of an upset ex than those expected from a global leader.

What Happened?

More recently, Trump has faced criticism following his assertion that Taylor Swift is no longer appealing, marking another instance in his series of unsolicited remarks concerning her. This latest comment was made mere months after he expressed on Twitter, “‘I despise Taylor Swift!’” in September 2024, shortly after she supported Kamala Harris. The intention behind Trump’s use of the word “hot” remains ambiguous, whether referring to cultural significance or physical attractiveness, but it was perceived as a shallow and sexist jab nonetheless.

Believe It Or Not – Trump Was A Swiftie Once Upon A Time

Initially, Trump didn’t harbor feelings of dislike towards Taylor Swift. In fact, he had expressed admiration for her as early as 2012, praising her on Twitter and referring to her as “terrific.” He even showed interest in her personal life, commenting on her relationships, such as his tweet, “Taylor and Conor, great news for Taylor,” during her relationship with Conor Kennedy. This suggests that he was more involved in her personal affairs than one might expect.

It’s fantastic news to learn that Taylor Swift will be sharing hosting duties for the Grammy nominations special on the 5th of December! Taylor certainly knows how to captivate an audience.

However, in the year 2018, Taylor Swift shifted her stance, voicing her political support for Democrat Phil Bredesen instead of Marsha Blackburn who was endorsed by Trump. This action led Trump to comment jokingly to reporters, “To put it simply, I enjoy Taylor Swift’s music around 25% less now.

After that incident, he has made numerous attempts to criticize her, such as his strange remark about her relationship with Travis Kelce in 2023 and his odd assertion that his song “Justice for All,” recorded with men involved in the January 6 Capitol riots, outperformed hers on the charts. In 2024, he escalated these actions by sharing a fabricated AI image suggesting, “Taylor Swift wants you to vote for Donald Trump,” and directly tweeting, “I DESPISE TAYLOR SWIFT!,” following her endorsement of Kamala Harris. There’s also a video of him driving with Melania and Barron while “Blank Space” plays in the background, suggesting he may have been a casual fan at one point.

In simpler terms, Donald Trump spreads artificial intelligence-made photos depicting Taylor Swift and her supporters, misleadingly suggesting that she supports him.

Reactions

Fervent social media users didn’t hesitate to label Trump as self-centered when he suggested that Taylor’s recent absence from the limelight was due to him. Swift followers are well aware that Taylor often steps away for privacy, typically while working on new projects, and they don’t believe Trump’s opinion of her matters much.

The American Federation of Musicians spoke out, supporting Taylor’s freedom of expression and condemning President Trump for his efforts to weaken her impact.

Instead of managing the country effectively, he seems more preoccupied with criticizing the most popular pop star globally, as if he finds them incredibly foolish and unproductive.

Contrary to what Trump might say, Taylor Swift remains undeniably among the most accomplished musicians in history. She has released ten studio albums, amassed over 300 awards including 14 Grammys, 40 American Music Awards, and 49 Billboard Music Awards. Her tour, The Eras Tour, is one of the highest-grossing tours of all time. With billions of streams on Spotify, she ranks among the most popular artists. To top it off, Taylor boasts an impressive social media presence with over 275 million followers on Instagram and millions more on TikTok and Twitter.

What This Feud Tells Us About Trump

It’s concerning when a political leader, especially one with significant influence like the President, openly attempts to suppress the freedom of expression of a prominent figure. Trump’s continuous criticisms towards Taylor Swift, such as his employment of artificial intelligence-generated images to fabricate her endorsement, demonstrate that he is ready to overstep moral boundaries in order to manipulate public opinion.

It’s odd that a president seems to have ample time to discuss the personal life and career of a 35-year-old pop star, who typically avoids mentioning him. Since 2018, Trump has behaved like an ex-admirer with a tendency for public outbursts whenever Taylor criticizes him or supports his political rivals. In 2024, he even referred to her as “unusually beautiful,” which raised eyebrows three months before posting “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”, a statement that many found odd and fixated.
