Tron: Catalyst fights for the Arq Grid in June

In 2023, Mike Bithell, creator of Thomas Was Alone, along with his studio Bithell Games, ventured into the realm of Tron. The game, Tron: Identity, built upon the rich storyline of the iconic movie franchise, introducing fresh characters and a novel environment called the Arq Grid. Towards the end of 2024, it was announced that Bithell would collaborate again with Big Fan Games (a division of Devolver Digital) for a follow-up titled Tron: Catalyst. On Monday, we finally got an official release date for this sequel.

In Disney’s Tron: Catalyst, players encounter Exo, a robust and adaptive program boasting an extraordinary talent for creating time loops. Empowered by this capability, Exo embarks on a mission to overthrow the ruling powers in a deteriorating Grid, while eluding Conn, a wicked operative of CORE. Exo’s challenge lies in mastering her enigmatic abilities and unraveling the mysterious ‘Glitch’ that imperils the Grid.

Instead of focusing primarily on text-based exploration like Tron: Identity, Tron: Catalyst offers a more action-oriented experience. Players can traverse on foot, participate in both close-quarter and long-range combat, and complete Light Cycle missions to advance the narrative. Unlocking new capabilities will be possible by gathering Data Shards throughout the game.

The Tron: Identity game was warmly accepted upon its debut, even earning an 8 from Shacknews. Soon after the game’s launch, Disney announced that Bithell would continue developing new Tron games. Keep an eye out for Tron: Catalyst, which is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on Tuesday, June 17.
