Tron: Ares’ Nine Inch Nails Soundtrack Will Be ‘Grittier’ Than Previous Films

As a longtime fan of the Tron franchise and a connoisseur of music that brings stories to life, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Tron: Ares! The fact that Nine Inch Nails will be composing the soundtrack is nothing short of exhilarating. Their gritty, industrial style promises to create a sonic landscape that perfectly encapsulates the new world we’ll see in this film.

Although details about the forthcoming movie titled “Tron: Ares” remain scant, the film’s director has lately shared some insights regarding the film’s soundtrack. This soundtrack is being crafted by none other than Nine Inch Nails, and here’s a sneak peek into what fans should anticipate from it.

What do we know about the Tron: Ares soundtrack?

In an interview with Empire Magazine, director Joachim Rønning hinted at some changes in the film’s soundtrack. He mentioned that it would have a grittier and more industrial feel compared to past films, reflecting Ares’ exploration of a fresh, unfamiliar world.

Speaking about it, Rønning noted that the music by Nine Inch Nails will give this edition a rougher, more mechanized feel. He emphasizes the distinction between The Grid and reality. In this context, the music of Nine Inch Nails fits perfectly with the fresh Tron universe we are building.

Before the addition of Nine Inch Nails, the Tron soundtracks were created by two sets of composers. The first was Wendy Carlos, who made the original score, and later, Daft Punk, who produced the music for Tron: Legacy. Both of these compositions have received praise from critics.

Reznor and Atticus Ross, who are set to compose the album as well, have previously created scores for films including The Social Network (2010), Gone Girl (2014), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023), Challengers (2024), and others.

In the upcoming film, both Jared Leto and Jeff Bridges are set to appear. Notably, Jeff Bridges is returning to his character, Kevin Flynn, from Tron and Tron: Legacy. Additionally, the cast of Tron: Ares includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins.

Ares is set to be Disney’s third movie in the Tron series, following the original from 1982 and its sequel Tron: Legacy in 2010. The director of this new film is Joachim Rønning, who has previously worked on Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019) and Young Woman and the Sea (2024), and also collaborated with Espen Sandberg on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2017.

In U.S. cinemas and IMAX screens, the film “Tron” titled “Ares” is scheduled to premiere on October 10, 2025, courtesy of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
