Tracker star teases new jaded character and Colter's lone-wolf status in season 2

As a gamer who’s been through countless hours of survival games and detective mysteries, I must say that the second season of Tracker has me hooked! The lone wolf, Colter Shaw, is facing his biggest challenge yet – a case that could potentially shake up his solitary lifestyle.

Tracker seems to be placing Colter Shaw in a situation where he might need to reconsider his solitary lifestyle, potentially causing doubts about being a “lone wolf”!

In simpler terms, “Tracker” has proven to be one of CBS’s most successful new shows since its premiere in early 2024. It centers around Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley), who was raised by a survivalist father and now takes on various tracking assignments ranging from missing individuals to lost items. The show has been a massive hit, with Season 2 ramping up the excitement.

The white whale case continues in Tracker season 2

Season 2 started by having Colter tackle his persistently troubling case, often referred to as his ‘white whale.’ This case dates back to 2014 when a young woman named Gina Picket was abducted from a shopping mall. It was one of the early cases for Colter, and though he strongly believed that Frank (Ryan Dorsey) was the culprit, he failed to provide the necessary evidence or locate Gina at the time.

Every year on the anniversary of the disappearance, Colter makes an uncomfortable visit to Frank in a bid to gather more information, but Frank remains tight-lipped and unwilling to admit any wrongdoing. The season premiere concludes with the revelation that Colter is romantically involved with Camille, Gina’s sister (played by Florina Lima).

The storyline has yet to unfold in the series, as Justin Hartley revealed to TV Line that it would extend through the initial portion of Season 2 and include an exciting acting surprise.

There’s a character that comes in (played by Brent Sexton) that has his own white whale case and a completely different approach. He’s a retired cop, older, a little more jaded, a little more affected by the way things are, and has an entirely different view on human beings and why they do what they do.” (He and Colter) kind of converge, start to deal with something else… and then you start to see that they have a choice: It’s either gonna to be working together, or it’s gonna be me against you.

That’s a big turn for Colter that could change his way of doing things.

Can Colter continue as a lone wolf?

Colter tends to work independently, portraying a “lone wolf” persona. However, behind the scenes, he has a robust network of support. This includes his handler Velma (Abby McEnany), lawyer Reenier (Fiona Renee), hacker Bobby (Eric Graise), and occasionally his estranged brother Russell (Jensen Ackles).

Consequently, although Colter often prefers to handle cases individually, he might be starting to understand that working alone can be risky. As Hartley phrases it, Colter may be contemplating abandoning his “lone-wolf” approach, recognizing that “an additional perspective, from a different era,” could assist him in uncovering the truth behind Gina’s disappearance.

Regardless of the outcome, Colter can expect challenging situations during Season 2, as he tackles tough cases. Resolving an elusive case from the past and dealing with his typical escapades, the “lone wolf” might consider broadening his team as the series, “Tracker”, progresses.

Tracker ais Sundays at 9/8c on CBS.
