As a long-time fan of the Toy Story franchise, hearing Tim Allen’s recent update about Toy Story 5 has filled me with a childlike excitement that only the thought of Buzz Lightyear and his Space Ranger adventures can bring. Having grown up with these characters, it feels like reuniting with old friends, albeit ones made of plastic and metal.
Tim Allen recently opened up about the upcoming Toy Story 5, giving a new update on the story for the film and when he’s set to begin work on it.
In a recent chat with Collider, the actor Allen, known for voicing Buzz Lightyear across all Toy Story films, disclosed that he’s currently working on Toy Story 5 and has just completed a significant voice-recording session.
Allen mentioned, “To be honest, I’m not sure what to share right now. About a week ago, I completed a five-hour session for Buzz, and let me tell you, it feels strange to return to it. I’m afraid I can’t disclose any information at the moment.
In the latter part of the conversation, Allen expressed admiration for the movie’s narrative, emphasizing that its production isn’t driven by profit or success, but rather because the tale itself is exceptionally engaging.
Allen remarked, “This story is incredibly smart.” He asked, “Would you like to work on five of these? I don’t think they’re after the money. I believe they want this project to succeed, but that’s not their primary motivation. Without a fantastic script, they wouldn’t have created it and they wouldn’t have contacted me or Tom [Hanks]. It’s truly clever. It was difficult to secure, and then, around the two-hour mark, I was playing Buzz. Honestly, I feel fortunate to be Buzz Lightyear. It will be enjoyable. We’re about a year away. I’ve reached the third act. After that, we’ll refine it. Then, I’ll do it another five times. This story is excellent, I assure you.
What do we know about Toy Story 5?
It’s worth noting that details about Toy Story 5 are still scarce; however, it was mentioned by Tim Allen last year that Disney has contacted both him and Tom Hanks regarding potential involvement in the movie’s production.
According to Allen, Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, confirmed that there will indeed be a Toy Story 5. He didn’t mince words when he said it was happening. The production team has already contacted Tom Hanks and myself about reprising our roles, but they’re keeping quiet about the details for now.
For me, as a dedicated sci-fi enthusiast, there’s always an air of curiosity when it comes to new series. Five installments might seem like too much, but I can’t help but wonder if it will live up to the hype. The author responsible for this project is known for crafting some exceptional works in this genre. He made a bold statement that if he didn’t get this one right, he wouldn’t proceed. So, there’s a strong possibility that this could be an incredibly engaging continuation of the storyline.

Back in February 2023, Iger made an official announcement that Toy Story 5 was being developed. Later on in the same month, Pete Docter, who is the head creative mind at Pixar, spoke to The Wrap about this upcoming sequel and shared his thoughts: “I believe it will be surprising. It contains some truly unique elements that you haven’t seen before.
