The 2024-25 campaign for Tottenham Hotspur is unraveling, as another crucial player, Radu Dragusin, has been sidelined due to an injury. Despite progressing ahead of Liverpool in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, Spurs are languishing in a disappointing 14th spot on the Premier League standings at the moment.
Despite the fact that Tottenham’s on-field performance is largely attributed to their challenges, ongoing fitness problems with key players like Radu Dragusin have certainly not aided Spurs. Now that the Romanian defender is scheduled for ACL surgery, fans are left pondering the details behind Radu Dragusin’s injury.
Here’s everything you need to know regarding the 23-year-old defender’s latest ailment.
How did Radu Dragusin get injured?
Radu Dragusin sustained a tear in his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) during Tottenham’s successful Europa League match against Elfsborg, affecting his knee.
During the game, the former Genoa player, who entered the field as a substitute at halftime, had a collision with forward Jalal Abdullai that caused him to hurt his knee unintentionally. This incident led to Dragusin getting injured, prompting Spurs manager Ange Postecoglu to remove the defender and replace him with 20-year-old forward Dane Scarlett. The substitution proved beneficial for Tottenham, as Scarlett scored shortly after coming on, giving them an advantage in the match.
Due to Radu Dragusin being diagnosed with an ACL injury, it’s expected that he’ll be out for a longer period, requiring recovery time on the sidelines. As a result, Dragusin has unfortunately been added to Tottenham’s growing list of injured defenders, which already includes Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie. Furthermore, the team is also dealing with absences from their first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, and James Maddison due to ongoing fitness concerns.
With a number of injuries, Tottenham Hotspur will take on Liverpool in the away leg of the EFL Cup semifinals, hoping to break their drought and win some hardware.
