This announcement precedes the American premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Last Mission, which will be Cruise’s eighth portrayal of IMF agent Ethan Hunt on the big screen.

In the upcoming Top Gun 3, actors Miles Teller and Glen Powell are likely to return to their characters Rooster and Hangman respectively. During a recent appearance on a morning talk show, Cruise shared that the production of Top Gun 3 and Days of Thunder 2 is ongoing. He further disclosed that he has completed shooting for his unnamed movie with esteemed director Alejandro G. Iñárritu (from The Revenant fame), which is scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.

Tom Cruise mentioned that they’ve been brainstorming various story ideas and exploring what can be achieved with them. It took him 35 years to develop Top Gun: Maverick, and now he’s also considering the storyline for Days of Thunder, both being projects they are currently discussing.

He mentioned, “We have many other movies in progress at the moment. I’m constantly filming, preparing, or promoting a movie. I’ve just wrapped up a film with Alejandro Iñárritu, who directed The Revenant, and we’ll be releasing that soon. It was an incredible experience working with him, and McQuarrie and I are always juggling multiple film projects.
