Top 7 South Indian releases on August 15th

1. Thangalaan

As a connoisseur of all things cinematic, let me tell you that I’m incredibly excited about the upcoming Tamil film, Thangalaan. Directed by the visionary Pa. Ranjith, this production promises to be one of the standout films of the year. The star-studded cast includes Chiyaan Vikram in the lead role, with Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy, Daniel Caltagirone, and many other talented actors gracing us with their presence in pivotal roles. This film is not to be missed!

Thangalaan is a period action-fantasy film, set during the British Empire’s rule (British Raj). The protagonist, portrayed by Chiyaan Vikram, assumes the role of a tribal chief. In collaboration with the colonizers, he assists them in excavating gold from their territory. However, the mining process stirs the anger of Aarathi, a powerful sorceress. As the story unfolds, the consequences of this action and the ensuing conflict with Aarathi become the central plot points.

As a devoted follower, I am excited to share that this movie is being generously funded by Studio Green and Neelam Productions. The talented GV Prakash Kumar has been tasked with creating the film’s music. A. Kishore Kumar skillfully handles the camera work, while Selva RK and SS Maruthi diligently oversee the editing and art direction aspects of the movie, respectively.

2. Double iSmart

“Double iSmart” is a sci-fi action movie starring Ram Pothineni and Sanjay Dutt as the main characters. Directed by Puri Jagannath, it serves as a spiritual successor to the 2019 film “iSmart Shankar,” with Ram Pothineni reprising his role as the central character. Kavya Thapar, Sayaji Shinde, Getup Srinu, and others play significant roles in this production too.

In addition to penning the script and taking on the directorial role, Puri Jagannath has financed the movie through his production company, Puri Connects. Mani Sharma is responsible for composing the film’s music. Sam K Naidu and Gianni Giannelli handle the cinematography, while Karthika Sreenivas R oversees the editing of the film.

3. Raghu Thatha

In the same league as films such as Thangalaan and Double iSmart, it’s Keerthy Suresh’s film, Raghu Thatha, making its mark at the box office. This upcoming movie is said to be a blend of social themes and comedy, boasting a stellar cast including MS Bhaskar, Ravindra Vijay, Rajeev Raveendranathan, among others.

The movie, marking the directorial first of acclaimed author Suman Kumar, tackles numerous social stigmas such as the imposition of Hindi in the South, different manifestations of patriarchy, and more. The character Kayalvizhi, played by Keerthy Suresh, is portrayed as a bold and unyielding young woman who isn’t shy about standing up for her convictions.

Raghu Thatha is funded by Hombale Films for his film, which represents their first venture into the Tamil movie industry. The music, camera work, and editing duties are handled by Sean Roldan, Yamini Yagnamurthy, and TS Suresh respectively.

4. Mr. Bachchan

Next on our list is the movie “Mr. Bachchan,” starring Ravi Teja. Directed by Harish Shankar, it’s the actor Tiger Nageswara Rao’s second project of 2024, following the action movie “Eagle” that came out in February this year.

In this upcoming movie starring Mr. Bachchan, you’ll also see Jagapathi Babu, Sachin Khedkar, Bhagyashri Borse, and others in significant roles. Although details about the plot are scarce, it appears that the film is inspired by actual income tax raids on businessman Sardar Inder Singh, with a focus on crime action drama.

1. The movie is being financed by People Media Factory, and Micky J Meyer is responsible for its musical score. Ayananka Bose operates the camera for Mr. Bachchan, while Ujwal Kulkarni handles the post-production editing process.

5. Bhairathi Ranangal

As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for Kannada cinema, I am eagerly awaiting the release of “Bhairathi Ranangal,” starring Shiva Rajkumar. Having grown up in Bangalore, I have had the pleasure of witnessing the magic of Shiva Rajkumar’s performances on the silver screen. This time around, it seems like he is back with a bang in this film directed by Narthan.

As a long-time fan of Kannada cinema, I am thrilled to learn that a new film is in the works as a follow-up to Shiva Rajkumar’s previous film Mufti. This upcoming movie promises to delve into the intriguing past of gangster Bhairathi Ranangal, who is apprehended by an undercover cop named Gana.

6. Nunakkuzhi

In the upcoming movie directed by Jeethu Joseph titled “Nunakkuzhi,” it’s anticipated to be a pure comedy with Basil Joseph and Grace Antony as the main characters. The script, penned by KR Krishna Kumar, also stars Manoj K Jayan, Nikhila Vimal, Althaf Salim, Siddique among others in significant roles.

Funded by Saregama, Vishnu Shyam creates the music for the movie. Meanwhile, Satheesh Kurup oversees the camera work, and Vinayak VS has been brought on board as the editor. At this point, details about the film are scarce, but it’s clear that it is a comedy focusing on Basil Joseph’s character, a wealthy individual who encounters hardships.

7. Manorathangal

Manorathangal isn’t strictly a full-length movie; instead, it’s an anthology collection of nine short films produced by eight different directors. The series is inspired by the works of acclaimed Malayalam author and Jnanpith awardee MT Vasudevan Nair.

As a long-time fan of Malayalam cinema, I can confidently say that this upcoming series promises to be nothing short of extraordinary. With a cast boasting heavyweights like Mohanlal, Mammootty, Fahadh Faasil, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Biju Menon, Asif Ali, and Aparna Balamurali, it’s evident that the talent pool is immense. I’ve had the privilege of watching these actors evolve over the years, each bringing their unique charm and brilliance to every role they tackle. Add to that a list of directors including the renowned Priyadarshan, Santhosh Sivan, Mahesh Narayanan, and Ranjith, who have all contributed significantly to the industry, and you’ve got a recipe for cinematic success. I can hardly wait to see what this collaboration will yield!

As a devoted film enthusiast, I can’t help but eagerly anticipate the release of the highly-awaited series, Manorathangal. This coming Independence Day, it will make its grand entrance into our homes through the streaming platform, Zee5.
