In an interview with PlayStation, the creator of Tomba, Tokuro Fujiwara, explained that it’s a platformer game that uses 3D technology but follows the rules of 2D gaming, which is why it’s referred to as a 2.5D game. Although it has linear levels, the game provides an open-world sensation due to its quests and hidden areas. Additionally, you can choose to bypass certain main objectives while battling sneaky pigs throughout the game. Originally developed in 1997 by Whoopee Camp, the Special Edition offers enhancements thanks to the Carbon Engine, enabling it to run on platforms beyond PlayStation for the first time.
