As a long-time gamer and avid fan of the Tomb Raider series, I can hardly contain my excitement for Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s upcoming TV adaptation at Amazon MGM! Having grown up playing the iconic video games, Lara Croft has been a beloved character in my life, and the thought of seeing her come to life on television with such talented hands guiding the project is truly thrilling.
Amazon MGM Studios’ head of TV, Vernon Sanders, has announced some new developments for Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s “Tomb Raider” television series.
After the latest Emmy nominations for shows like Fallout and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Sanders was queried by The Wrap about when he believed the creation of the Tomb Raider television adaptation, based on the renowned video game franchise, would commence.
When will the Tomb Raider TV show start filming?
Sanders might provide a standard report on the project’s progress given its initial stage, yet he shared some details regarding the upcoming plans for the remainder of 2024.
“We’re putting in a lot of effort and have excellent resources at hand. Phoebe is truly talented, and we’re eagerly looking forward to it. In my estimation, the remainder of this year will be spent preparing meticulously to begin production as soon as possible next year.”
He then goes on to add a rather crucial point in production.
”We’ve got to find our Lara Croft, so that global wide search will start sooner rather than later.”
The production of the Tomb Raider TV series was given the go-ahead as recently as May, so it’s no surprise that there is still a lot of work left to be done.
As a gamer, I’m excited to share that Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be leading the creative team behind the Tomb Raider TV show. She’s renowned for her brilliant work on the hit series Fleabag, which has earned numerous awards. In addition, she’s graced the big screen in films like Solo: A Star Wars Story and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. So, buckle up, fellow adventurers, as we’re in for an unforgettable journey with Phoebe at the helm!
Waller-Bridge, who’s always been passionate about Tomb Raider, was thrilled when presented with this chance.
“Looking back, if I could have warned my teenage self about the amazing opportunity ahead, I believe she would be overwhelmed with excitement. For me, working on Tomb Raider has been a significant part of my journey, and it’s an honor to bring this beloved franchise to television alongside such dedicated colleagues. Lara Croft holds deep significance for me, as she does for countless others, and I can hardly wait to embark on this thrilling adventure – bats included.”
As a longtime fan of the Tomb Raider franchise, I’m beyond excited about the upcoming animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, which Netflix is set to release this year. Growing up, I spent countless hours playing the video games and was always in awe of Lara’s strength, intelligence, and determination. Her adventures fueled my imagination and inspired me to explore the world around me. So, to now see an animated series based on her legend is truly a dream come true for me. I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds and to join Lara on her latest adventures.
