Many individuals are excitedly looking forward to the debut of Lara Croft’s upcoming AAA expedition. Although we’ve enjoyed revisited trilogies like the latest 4-6, and witnessed Lara Croft teaming up with well-known franchises, there’s a strong desire for a fresh Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics. For some time now, one has been in production, and Crystal Dynamics has assured us that recent unfavorable news does not affect their plans for the new Tomb Raider title.
Crystal Dynamics’ bad news does not “alter plans” for new Tomb Raider game
Crystal Dynamics regretfully announced that they’ve had to let go of 17 skilled employees due to a tough decision they made.
The announcement explains that they didn’t take the decision casually, as it was crucial to adjust our present business requirements and ensure the studio’s prosperous future. Moreover, the developer acknowledged that this situation may be difficult for those affected, but they are offering transition assistance and job opportunities to help them through this challenging time.
Although no direct reference to Tomb Raider 12 is made, the statement concludes with an assurance that Crystal Dynamics continues to strive for excellence in game development, and this shift doesn’t affect their ongoing project schedules.
Regrettably, layoffs have become increasingly frequent in the world of video game production.
Regarding the ongoing projects at Crystal Dynamics, they are actively working on creating a brand-new installment in the Tomb Raider series, and simultaneously collaborating with another team to develop a fresh iteration of Perfect Dark for the Xbox platform.
Although we haven’t had the chance to play the latest Tomb Raider game yet, here are some details we do have: The game will be published by Amazon Games, and it will showcase a single, unified Lara Croft whose appearance we’ve already caught a glimpse of. Additionally, this new adventure is being developed using Unreal Engine 5. Lastly, it has been confirmed that the game will be a strictly single-player experience.
Previously, whispers have circulated about an open-world game set in India, but these are merely unconfirmed speculations without solid proof. Fingers crossed, we might get an announcement for TR12 this year since it’s been under development for a while now. Given that 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the Tomb Raider franchise, launching the game then would be ideal.
Instead of TR12, fans can eagerly look forward to a live-action series on Amazon, as well as the second season of the Hayley Atwell-starring series on Netflix.
Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed that a legendary role-playing game will depart from PS Plus subscription service in April 2025, marking the end of its availability for now.
