Tom Hanks’ recent documentary series titled “The Americas” has ignited debate among some viewers, who are speculating if artificial intelligence might have played a part in its creation. This captivating series offers breathtaking visuals of the diverse wildlife found across North and South America, highlighting nature’s stunning beauty.

So, was Artificial Intelligence used in the production of the show? Let’s find out!

Was AI used in Tom Hanks’ The Americas documentary series?

As much as I’ve heard whispers about AI being part of Tom Hanks’ The Americas documentary series, I haven’t found any solid proof to back up those rumors.

A ten-part documentary series titled “The Americas” explores the diverse wildlife and ecosystems found across North and South America. This captivating series features the talented Tom Hanks as its narrator, with production by the same team behind the hit documentaries “Planet Earth” and “Blue Planet.

After debuting on NBC and Peacock on February 23, the show has been met with allegations by certain viewers who believe it uses artificially generated visuals and that Tom Hanks’ narration might not be authentic.

In response to these claims, the production team has chosen not to comment on the issue. Yet, the vastness and genuine quality of the video clips make it doubtful that AI was responsible. Mike Gunton, a well-known executive producer who’s worked on Planet Earth, has openly discussed the difficulties they faced in creating this project.

During a talk on Cherry the Geek TV, Gunton likened the filming process to an adventure or exploration. He elaborated, “Each filming session is more like an expedition. And because every habitat, animal, and location is different, each one requires a unique approach. So, regrettably, there’s no universal method that works for all.

Additionally, Gunton disclosed that Tom Hanks took great interest in the production. He explained that Hanks aimed to make viewers experience a voyage alongside him, expressing this desire as, “Join me. Let me guide you through something” (as reported by The Direct).
