Tom Cruise's most underrated action movie is now on Netflix

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of film and gaming experiences under my belt, I can confidently say that Tom Cruise’s action movies have been a staple in my entertainment diet for years. While the Mission: Impossible and Top Gun franchises are undeniably crowd-pleasers, there’s one movie that often gets overlooked – Edge of Tomorrow.

Thinking about Tom Cruise’s filmography, it’s likely that his action films such as the “Mission: Impossible” series or the “Top Gun” films are the ones that immediately pop into your head. Given their massive success, it is understandable why these two franchises stand out among those starring Cruise.

Although Tom Cruise is widely recognized for his action roles and the thrilling stunts he executes during filming, it’s easy to overlook another one of his high-octane films.

The movie “Edge of Tomorrow,” initially released in 2014, is back on Netflix to celebrate its 10-year milestone! If you’re seeking a great Netflix pick, don’t miss out on “Edge of Tomorrow.

Netflix adds Edge of Tomorrow on Sept. 7

Netflix has confirmed that the film “Edge of Tomorrow” featuring Cruise will resume streaming on September 7th. We’ve verified that it is indeed accessible to stream now! At the moment, it isn’t ranking among the top Netflix movies, but we anticipate it will climb up the charts by the end of this weekend.

The highly-acclaimed film “Edge of Tomorrow,” with a remarkable 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is simply fantastic! This action-packed movie features the talents of Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, and Brendan Gleeson.

In the movie, I step into the boots of Major William Cage, a pivotal figure in the fight against extraterrestrial invaders that have conquered Europe. The unfortunate twist is that I find myself trapped in a time loop – each time I perish during an assault, I miraculously wake up just before the attack starts again. To escape this endless cycle, I need to devise a strategy to save mankind. With the aid of Sergeant Rita Vrataski, portrayed by Emily Blunt, I set out on this challenging mission.

The screenplay for the movie was penned by Christopher McQuarrie, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth. Doug Liman was the one who directed the film. Notably, both Cruise and Liman had previously collaborated on American Made, a Netflix sensation that garnered significant attention earlier this year.

Significantly, Cruise teamed up with McQuarrie again for the film ‘Edge of Tomorrow’, having previously collaborated on ‘Valkyrie’ and ‘Jack Reacher’. Following ‘Edge of Tomorrow’, they went on to work together on three ‘Mission: Impossible’ films – ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’, ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’, and the upcoming ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’. Additionally, they are set to collaborate on another ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie.

Doug Liman says Edge of Tomorrow 2 is still possible

As per a report from Variety in July, director Doug Liman stated that the sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, titled Edge of Tomorrow 2, has not met its end. The project was officially announced back in 2019; however, there hasn’t been much activity or updates on it since then.

This summer, Liman shared with Empire Magazine that he and Cruise continue discussing the possibility of a sequel to “Edge of Tomorrow,” although no definite plans have been made yet.

Ever since the initial movie was released, there’s been a lot of anticipation among fans for a follow-up. It would certainly be intriguing to find out if it materializes. Both Cruise and Blunt are highly sought-after in Hollywood, so they might be busy with ongoing projects for some time. Fingers crossed that they can somehow fit this project into their schedules.

At present, you have an opportunity to stream “Edge of Tomorrow,” one of Tom Cruise’s finest and least recognized films, on Netflix. Keep an eye out for further news regarding a possible sequel once we get more information!
