To Rome we go! Emily in Paris season 5 officially renewed at Netflix

As a gamer with a soft spot for light-hearted romantic comedies, I can’t help but feel like I’ve hit the jackpot with the renewal of Emily in Paris for a fifth season! Just like how I’ve leveled up my character in countless games over the years, Emily too seems to be progressing, moving from one exciting adventure to another.

Emily Cooper’s journeys in Rome or Paris aren’t over yet! Only three days after the premiere of Emily in Paris season 4 part 2, Netflix confirmed that there will indeed be a fifth season. Lily Collins was instrumental in this announcement on Good Morning America, making fans the first to learn about this exciting development.

Alongside Emily herself announcing updates regarding the show, Netflix posted a short clip showing Collins sipping tea from a cup with a “5” at its base. The video teasing the renewal for season 5 hinted subtly about what lies ahead in the new episodes, as Collins says, “There’s no place like Rome.

At present, Netflix hasn’t disclosed the number of episodes for season 5, but considering the pattern of its previous four seasons, it’s likely that season 5 will consist of ten episodes. Previously, season 4 was divided into two parts, with each part containing five episodes that were released within a month. Here’s hoping that we won’t experience a split season in this upcoming installment.

Warning: Spoilers ahead from Emily in Paris season 4.

In a chat with Netflix’s Tudum following the announcement of season 5, both Collins and series creator Darren Star have confirmed that we’ll find Emily in Rome next time around. The final episode of season 4 saw Emily being offered an intriguing job proposition to establish and manage Agence Grateau’s fresh office in Rome. Although she’s moving to Rome temporarily, Darren Star emphasizes that Emily won’t be parting ways with Paris permanently.

Star informed Tudum that Emily will maintain a significant role in Rome while she pursues her latest professional venture (and carries on dating Marcello). In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter following the release of season 4 part 2, the creator hinted that Emily won’t be departing Paris permanently. This certainly piques our curiosity about how long Emily will stay in Rome! We can hardly wait to see what unfolds next!

In the upcoming season 5, it’s clear that Emily and Gabriel will remain separated at the start – a situation arising from the fact that Gabriel has regretted his decision to let her go, but Emily has already found happiness with Marcello. It seems that Collins is supportive of Emily pursuing her feelings for Marcello given how content he makes her.

Here’s what Collins told Tudum about the state of Emily’s personal life going into season 5:

Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance. We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time. Unfortunately, Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice.

Fans might be curious about whether ‘Emily in Paris’ will end with its fifth season, but as of now, Netflix hasn’t confirmed that season 5 is the last one. We shouldn’t jump to conclusions until they announce something prior to the release. Emily has many more personal and professional adventures left before she could possibly depart.

With the announcement that Emily in Paris season 5 has been greenlit, it’s expected that Star and the team will start brainstorming the storylines and writing the scripts soon. Here’s hoping filming kicks off early next year, with a possible release date around mid to late-2025. At least we won’t have to wait nearly two years for new episodes, but patience is key as we eagerly await what Emily’s adventures will bring in season 5.
