As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for both gaming and cinema, I must say the news about Timothée Chalamet starring in Josh Safdie’s film, Marty Supreme, has me more than a little intrigued! With his impressive performance background and Safdie’s knack for creating chaotic yet captivating stories, I can’t wait to see what this collaboration will bring.
Timothée Chalamet will take on the character of a table tennis athlete in the forthcoming movie “Marty Supreme,” directed by Josh Safdie, which the actor describes as having a comparable vibe to another film by Safdie.
What did Chalamet say about Marty Supreme?
On a recent chat with Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, I mentioned a film that, in my opinion, shares a similar pulse to “Uncut Gems” – a movie I had the pleasure of being part of under the guidance of the Safdie brothers.
According to Chalamet (as reported by World of Reel), director Josh Safdie possessed an intense, chaotic vibe. It wasn’t that the set was lethargic; quite the contrary, it was a grueling 16-hour workday for three months… Safdie really tested my limits, he put me through my paces, so to speak.
In the film, the protagonist is a ping-pong player, but Chalamet mentioned that certain stunts and performances required more physical exertion than one might anticipate. The actor expressed his desire to demonstrate his capabilities to Safdie, and he successfully passed this “test” with flying colors.
Chalamet expressed that he perceived him asking him to perform the stunts, and it seemed as if it were a test. He admitted feeling compelled to prove himself, and now, having successfully completed them without any fractures or injuries, he feels he’s come out on the other side unscathed.
Joining Timothée Chalamet in this diverse cast will be Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, magician Penn Jillette, Kevin O’Leary from Shark Tank, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, Sandra Bernhard, Spenser Granese, and musician Tyler, the Creator. The film’s script has been penned by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, who are also producing the movie alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet, and A24.
In 2008, Safdie embarked on his first feature film directorial venture, titled “The Pleasure of Being Robbed.” Following this, he collaborated with his brother Benny on several films, including “Good Time” from 2017 starring Robert Pattinson and “Uncut Gems” from 2019 featuring Adam Sandler. As the brothers pursue individual careers, Benny is currently working on a project titled “The Smashing Machine,” set to release in 2025, with Dwayne Johnson attached.
Currently, Timothée Chalamet is set to reappear as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, out this year. Later, he’ll take the stage as Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s biographical drama A Complete Unknown, slated for release on December 25, 2024.
A release date for Marty Supreme has not yet been announced by A24.
