Tim Allen Has Big Valentine’s Day Plans in Exclusive Shifting Gears Clip

ComingSoon can exclusively reveal a new clip from an upcoming episode of Shifting Gears.

In a fresh turn of events, the TV comedy series titled “Shifting Gears” has been introduced on ABC. This innovative production is the brainchild of Julie Thacker Scully and Mike Scully. The principal cast includes Tim Allen portraying the character Matt Parker, while Kat Dennings steps into the role of his estranged daughter, Riley Parker.

Last month, Shifting Gears made its debut on ABC. We’re thrilled to share an exclusive sneak peek from the upcoming episode titled “Valentines,” set to air on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. After its television broadcast, new episodes can be streamed on Hulu the following day.

What happens in the Shifting Gears clip?

In the video “Shifting Gears,” Allen’s character is all dressed up for a Valentine’s Day event that someone calls a “thing.” When Maxwell Simkins’s character Carter asks if this “thing” is a date, Allen tries to avoid the question and instead claims he’s visiting his grandma. Carter then remarks, “Oh dear, Grandma’s passed away.

For this episode, the storyline goes like this: “On Valentine’s Day, Matt finds an unforeseen bond in an unusual setting after visiting his late wife’s grave. Simultaneously, Riley gets her moment in the limelight as she features in a promotional video at the dance studio.

Apart from the main characters, Shifting Gears features Seann William Scott portraying Gabriel, Daryl Chill Mitchell playing Stitch, and Barrett Margolis taking on the role of Georgia.

In an interview with ComingSoon, Allen mentioned that working alongside Dennings on Shifting Gears was a unique experience. He said, “Somehow, we were both born on the same day, though years apart, I find myself feeling like we’re relatives of sorts. Our temperaments are strikingly similar – when we argue, it’s as if we’re mirror images. It’s hard to explain, but there’s a naturalness about our dynamic. And this is a term I’ve picked up from talented actors I’ve worked with before. When things got emotional on set, I knew I wanted this character to feel the pain of losing his loved one, and in Dennings, I found that missing wife.
