As a longtime Disney enthusiast who grew up with the magic of their stories, I must say that the announcement of The Princess and the Frog spin-off series Tiana for Disney Plus has me absolutely frog-static with excitement! Having seen Tiana’s journey unfold on the big screen in 2009 and again in Ralph Breaks the Internet, it warms my heart to see her continue her adventure as a princess.
At the D23 Expo, we were granted our initial glimpse of Disney Plus’s spin-off series based on The Princess and the Frog, starring Tiana, through a showcase exhibit.
The display sees Tiana, Prince Naveen, and alligator Lou in a musical mood.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but share my excitement for the upcoming sequel to the 2009 animated masterpiece! You know who I’m talking about – Tiana, the princess with an inspiring backstory. And guess what? Anika Noni Rose is coming back to bring Tiana’s voice to life once more! It’s been a while since we last saw her on screen, but she’s been busy lending her vocal talents to Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet. I can hardly wait to see her magic at work again in this new adventure!
In the logline, it is stated that Tiana embarks on an exciting new journey as the freshly coronated Princess of Maldonia; however, her connection to her old home in New Orleans continues to linger.
Tiana series resurfaces at D23
Back in December 2020, it was initially announced that the Tiana series was being developed for Disney Plus. Initially planned for a 2023 release, this didn’t happen as expected. In October 2023, Joyce Sherri stepped up to take on both writing and directing roles for the show – her first solo projects in these areas. Previously, she had contributed to the writing team for Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass.
In the tale of The Princess and the Frog, a hardworking waitress yearns to achieve her dream of owning a restaurant. Embarking on an adventure, she aims to transform a frog into a prince. However, following their kiss, she encounters the same predicament.
As a devoted fan, I’d like to share some exciting news about the enchanting movie, “The Princess and the Frog.” This captivating tale is brought to life by none other than the brilliant duo, Ron Clements (known for his magic touch on Moana, Aladdin, and Hercules) and John Musker (who gave us The Little Mermaid, Treasure Planet, and The Great Mouse Detective).
As a long-time fan of the original film, I am eagerly anticipating its 15th anniversary this December. Having followed this franchise for so many years, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and excitement at the thought of what might be revealed about the series in the coming months. With my memories of the film still fresh in my mind, I eagerly await any news or updates that may come our way.
