Thunderbolts*’ Sentry Concept Art Reveals Dark Alternate Suit for Lewis Pullman

A creative professional involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s 2025 Thunderbolts project recently unveiled preliminary sketches of a more ominous design for Lewis Pullman‘s Sentry suit. Interestingly, the film version of Sentry primarily wears a golden uniform, which aligns with how the character has generally been portrayed in Marvel Comics.

Artist Constantine Sekeris showcased several preliminary designs of The Sentry from the Thunderbolts comic series on social media. As a member of Marvel Studios’ visual development team, led by Andy Park, Sekeris designed a costume for the conflicted superhero that seems to reflect the character’s personality traits.

In Sekeris’ interpretation, the usual golden hue persists in this attire, yet it takes a more muted tone. Dark accents and patterns are more noticeable in Sekeris’ design compared to the movie version. The cape designed by Sekeris extends across the chest, forming an upside-down V shape that covers the remainder of the upper body.

John Staub perfected the final design for Sentry’s movie and it looked fantastic on-screen…Here’s another early concept sketch, this time leaning towards a more realistic approach with a darker color scheme and rough texture to enhance the overall tone…I also chose not to depict him flying in this piece to maintain consistency…We experimented with a variety of ideas, from simple to complex, to find the right balance.” – Serakis’ post caption.

In “Thunderbolts,” Robert “Bob” Reynolds, also known as Sentry/Void, makes his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Therefore, it was crucial to design the character appropriately for this project. Comic book writers Paul Jenkins and artist Jae Lee initially brought Sentry to life for Marvel Comics, with reported assistance from Rick Veitch.

Initially introduced in the premier edition of The Sentry comic books back in 2000, this character has since grown to be a significant element within the Marvel Universe. Writers Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo have skillfully woven the Sentry into the script for Thunderbolts.
