The Jake Schreier-directed film offered a detailed exploration of Taskmaster’s complex personality, delving deeper into her tragic backstory. In this movie, Thunderbolts* debuted Antonia Dreykov, who had not been seen in the MCU since Black Widow in 2021; however, it also signified her farewell within the franchise.
Fans who’ve watched Thunderbolts are aware that Taskmaster doesn’t survive the opening scenes of the movie. The omission of Olga Kurylenko from the cast list for Avengers: Doomsday suggests that Marvel Studios may have chosen to terminate the character in their current cinematic universe, as they did so in the latest film.
Online enthusiasts have banded together, forming the “Justice For Taskmaster” movement on X (previously Twitter). They’ve established separate accounts for the late Thunderbolts team member, seemingly hoping to persuade Marvel Studios to reconsider their plans regarding Taskmaster. Additionally, one user suggested Marvel create a character named Antonia Dreykov with similar origins in the comics, aiming to bring more of this character to light.
The #JusticeForTaskmaster trend arises following a recent speculation about Taskmaster’s cut storyline in Thunderbolts. It was suggested that Olga Kurylenko had a larger role initially planned for her as Taskmaster, but the Quantum of Solace actress’ part was reduced significantly during final edits. So far, Marvel has remained silent on whether or not they will revisit Kurylenko’s portrayal of Taskmaster in future projects.
