Thunderbolts*’ David Harbour on Where Rachel Weisz’s Melina Is in MCU

Since I first saw Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff in Black Widow back in 2021, fans like me have been eagerly speculating about her potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though Scarlett Johansson has moved on from her MCU role, David Harbour, Olga Kurylenko, and Florence Pugh are all set to reappear in Thunderbolts*, leaving us unsure of Melina’s whereabouts. But recently, Harbour, our Red Guardian, has dropped some hints about Weisz’s character’s future.

Thunderbolts*’ David Harbour has talked to Marvel about Rachel Weisz’s return as Melina

Recently, I’ve been tossing around some exciting ideas about a potential return of my Black Widow sidekick, Melina, to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’ve even had some chats with the bigwigs at Marvel about it! Fingers crossed, it might just happen soon!

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter on the set of Thunderbolts, the 50-year-old actor expressed that he has discussed Melina with Marvel’s team and believes there is still significant room for development regarding Melina.

In the final scenes of Black Widow, Yelena, Melina, and Alexei assumed control of the Red Room’s Widows, leaving fans optimistic about potential appearances of Harbour and Weisz in future films. Harbour, in a recent interview, fueled these expectations by revealing a deleted scene from Black Widow, mentioning that it featured a tender moment between him and Rachel after the crash, where he even touched her face. He expressed this scene as one of his favorites from the movie.

The actor portraying Red Guardian hinted at a possible return of the character Melina in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), possibly in the Thunderbolts project*, but also mentioning that she could appear in another MCU production. He expressed his hope, stating, “I think there’s a chance for Melina to reappear in an intriguing manner, and I’d be thrilled to see her character interact with Alexei once more. Her presence would certainly bring an exciting complexity.”

*The Thunderbolts is a team of superheroes and villains in the Marvel Comics universe, but there has been no official confirmation about its appearance in the MCU.

Marvel Studios hasn’t given any definite updates about Rachel Weisz’s character Melina Vostokoff in future projects as of now. However, fans can catch other familiar faces from Black Widow in the upcoming MCU film, Thunderbolts*, set to hit theaters on May 2, 2026.

*Note: The title “Thunderbolts” is a rumored title for an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie and has not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios.
