As a seasoned gamer and avid Marvel enthusiast with over two decades of experience, I must admit that the latest revelation about the Thunderbolts movie title has me intrigued. The inclusion of an asterisk (*) in the title has sparked a flurry of speculation among fans, leaving us all guessing what secret meaning lies beneath.
As an avid fan, I’ve been just as intrigued as you all about the asterisk following “Thunderbolts*” in Marvel’s latest movie title teaser. Ever since the SDCC panel, fans have been abuzz with theories regarding the significance of this mysterious symbol. Unfortunately, the reason behind its inclusion was left unexplained during the event. Let me share some of the most popular fan theories circulating around about the meaning of Thunderbolts with an Asterisk.
Why does the Thunderbolts* title have an asterisk sign?
The significance behind the asterisk in the title Thunderbolts* has stirred numerous conversations on social media. However, Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige didn’t clarify the reason behind the asterisk in the title. At the SDCC during the Thunderbolts* slate in Hall H, the host asked the director of the movie, Jake Schreier about the asterisk, which can be seen in the clip posted by Films That Rock. With a pause Schreier looks at Feige for permission to tell the audience. However, the Marvel boss denies it, saying fans can get to know the meaning behind the Asterisk in the movie, hinting that it is connected to a spoiler in the movie.
Why is the Thunderbolts team called that?
Ever since the Thunderbolts movie was announced at Comic-Con 2022, fans have been eagerly anticipating Harrison Ford’s portrayal of Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in his Red Hulk form, given the team’s name shares a resemblance with his. However, during the 2024 SDCC, Kevin Feige dashed these expectations by revealing to the host that Thunderbolt Ross will not feature in the movie. He clarified that the title of Thunderbolts does not refer to the character of Thunderbolt Ross.
In another interpretation, the asterisk could suggest that the Thunderbolts, as they are known in the film, might not retain this name for much longer. It’s possible that they will be referred to as the Dark Avengers by the end of the storyline, based on the comic book series with the same title.
