In my role as a lifestyle expert, I find it crucial to acknowledge an incident where I, regrettably, may have inadvertently offended the Kannada-speaking community with a comment during the pre-release event of a movie titled “Thug Life.” The reaction from the public was intense and understandably so, as their sentiments were deeply hurt. To the extent that the Karnataka Film Chamber requested a ban on the film’s release across the state. I extend my sincerest apologies for any discomfort caused and am committed to learning from this experience in order to foster greater harmony and respect for all cultures moving forward.
Although the legal case regarding the actor and his movie was ongoing, the Supreme Court recently issued a fresh declaration expressing support for the actor and the film.
SC criticizes ban on release of Thug Life in Karnataka
The India Today report states that during the recent court hearing on the ongoing cinema ban case involving Thug Life, the Supreme Court bench expressed disapproval of a violent mob having the power to decide which movies are shown in cinemas, suggesting they should not be allowed to act as hooligans instead.
The bench advised, ‘When someone makes a statement, you respond with another statement, not by threatening destructive acts such as burning down theaters. If people from Karnataka and Bengaluru think the statement was incorrect, they can issue their own statement expressing that viewpoint. Why resort to such threats against cinemas?’
Thug Life’s release urged by Supreme Court to Karnataka government
Stepping forward with their decision, the honorable court rebuked the earlier stance taken by the Karnataka government, which urged Kamal Haasan to express an apology for his remarks. As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but feel relieved and validated that justice has been served in this matter.
The court argued that it wasn’t their place to issue such a declaration. Moreover, once the Film Certification Board of India gives a movie its clearance, it should be permitted to be shown publicly.
If individuals prefer, they’re free to abstain from watching the movie; nonetheless, we refuse to let threats and coercion dictate the court’s judgment regarding its release. The board expressed, “People have the option to not see it. Yet, we won’t let threats and intimidation determine whether a film is distributed.
OTT deal to be re-negotiated for Thug Life amid its box office failure
Regarding the movie, its performance at the box office has been disappointingly poor, causing the producers to consider renegotiations with streaming platforms.
Based on a recent article by TopMob, there are indications that Netflix may be negotiating a fresh agreement for Thug Life at a reduced price of approximately 78-105 crores, which is about 20-25% lower than the previous estimate of Rs. 130 crores.
