Throwback: When Ajith Kumar almost got paralysed while performing action stunts on sets of his film

As a devoted follower of Tamil cinema, I have always admired Ajith Kumar for his unwavering dedication and commitment to his craft, especially when it comes to performing his own stunts. However, after learning about the harrowing ordeal he faced during the filming of Valimai, I find myself both awestruck and deeply concerned.

Ajith Kumar is recognized for his commitment to performing his own dangerous stunts, which have at times put him in perilous situations. An especially harrowing event transpired during the production of his action movie titled Valimai. Dr. Naresh Padmanabhan, an orthopedic surgeon, disclosed that the actor narrowly escaped paralysis due to injuries sustained while executing risky stunts.

In February 2022, the movie “Valimai” was released, starring Ajith in a demanding biker stunts role that highlighted his love for motor racing. During production, he endured several accidents, mainly affecting his spinal area.

As per an article from Indian Express, Dr. Padmanabhan elaborated that Ajith had a cervical spine discectomy surgery at two levels, during which a bone was taken out that was compressing his nervous system. Moreover, he suffered a vertebra fracture in his lower back, bringing him very close to paralysis.

He said, “Despite all that, if he’s surviving today, it’s because of the doctors.”

Throughout his career, Ajith has endured various injuries during movie productions, necessitating several operations on his spine, shoulders, and legs. His dedication to authenticity in action scenes has frequently resulted in severe bodily harm. Dr. Padmanabhan cautioned that Ajith’s stunts might create unrealistic expectations among fans, encouraging them not to reenact his risky actions. He explained that while Ajith’s acting portrays a message of resilience – demonstrating the ability to recover after a setback – the actual execution of such stunts carries significant risks.

In simpler terms, “He mentioned that although audiences have only witnessed an actor falling in ‘Valimai’, he has actually sustained injuries about four or five times while performing motorcycle stunts. His intention was to convey a hopeful message through his films. This message is that one can rise again after falling down.”

As an ardent admirer, let me share some exciting news! If you’re not already in the know, Ajith Kumar, my hero, performed every single stunt in his movie Valimai without a body double – can you believe it? Now, he’s charging up for another project titled Good Bad Ugly. This action-packed masterpiece is aiming to hit the screens during Pongal 2025! Guess who’ll be joining him on this cinematic journey? None other than the captivating Trisha Krishnan, taking center stage as the leading lady. As for the rest of the details about Good Bad Ugly, they’re being kept under lock and key – but I can barely contain my excitement!
