As a dedicated fan of Samantha Ruth Prabhu, I’ve been captivated by her journey and the choices she makes in her career. Her decision to turn down another item number after the success of “Oo Antava” from Pushpa: The Rise, despite the immense pressure and suggestions from loved ones, showcases her strong will and commitment towards her craft.
2021 saw Allu Arjun’s collaboration with Sukumar’s Pushpa: The Rise become an immediate blockbuster sensation at the box office, and I, as a die-hard fan, couldn’t help but be swept away by it! One of the standout moments for me was Samantha’s captivating performance in the song Oo Antava. That number, with its electrifying moves from both Samantha and Allu Arjun, has remained a chart-topper even three years after its release, still igniting excitement among fans like me. But I can’t help but wonder – could we be treated to another special appearance by the Eega actress in an item number someday? Well, Samantha herself hinted at this possibility in a throwback interview!
In an old interview with India Today, Samantha participated in a lively chat and took part in the well-known Rapid Fire game. When asked if she would ever perform another item number in the future, the actress answered “Oo Antanu,” which translates to “No.
Additionally, within the same part of the discussion, she was questioned about having feelings for Allu Arjun. In response, she expressed an affection bordering on a crush, while also acknowledging immense admiration for Shah Rukh Khan, but not going so far as to label it a crush. Notably, during the talk, Samantha refused to confirm if she enjoyed being single.
During a different conversation, Samantha shared that both her loved ones close to her and her family members had advised against her performing an item number at that time, as she was going through a separation from her former spouse, Naga Chaitanya.
According to Hindustan Times, she stated, “When ‘Oo Antava’ was proposed to me, it happened amidst our separation. Following the announcement, everyone around me – friends, family members, and well-wishers – expressed concern, saying things like, ‘You should stay at home; you shouldn’t do an item number right after announcing the separation.’ Even my supportive friends advised against it, saying, ‘Don’t do an item number.’ However, I decided to go ahead with it.
