If you’ve been a fan of Malayalam cinema for some time, it’s quite possible that your initial encounter with Mollywood was the timeless movie “Bangalore Days.” This film features Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin Pauly, Fahadh Faasil, Nazriya Nazim, and Parvathy Thiruvothu in its cast. The movie quickly became a hit, and as the years passed, it only grew more beloved.
Throwback to when Rana Daggubati opened up about failed Bangalore Days remake
Due to the overwhelming success of the original film, Bangalore Days was later adapted into Tamil as Bangalore Naatkal. In a 2020 interview with IANS, Rana Daggubati reflected that remaking the movie might not have been the best decision in retrospect.
Regarding the topic, the actor from Baahubali stated, “I was involved in the Tamil adaptation of Bangalore Days. Sadly, the movie didn’t perform well financially, and I can’t help but lament that we chose to remake such a captivating film.
He also mentioned that the primary motivation behind the remake was his desire to portray the role originally played by Fahadh Faasil in the initial film.
In the Tamil adaptation of Bangalore Days, titled Naatkal, Arya stepped into the shoes originally filled by Dulquer Salmaan, while Bobby Simha and Rana took on the roles previously held by Nivin Pauly and Fahadh Faasil respectively. Sri Divya portrayed a character similar to Nazriya from the original film. Additionally, Parvathy Thiruvothu reprised her role as she did in the Malayalam blockbuster.
Bangalore Naatkal also starred Samantha Ruth Prabhu in a cameo appearance.
Although the remake of Bangalore Days retained the storyline, it fell short in conveying the authentic feelings portrayed in the original version. Initially, viewers felt that Bangalore Naatkal missed the mark when it came to expressing the deep bond between a family of cousins and their complex emotions.
Just like with many remakes, it sparked numerous comparisons to the original, but unfortunately for Bangalore Naatkal, it didn’t last long at the box office.
The movie was helmed by Bommarilu Bhaskar in both its production (alongside Prasad V. Potluri and Dil Raju) and direction, marking a return for Bhaskar after more than five years. This long-awaited comeback project, titled Most Eligible Bachelor, featured Akhil Akkineni and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. The film’s soundtrack was created by Gopi Sundar, while the cinematography of the Tamil version was handled by acclaimed director K.V. Guhan.
Instead, check out the original Bangalore Days on the streaming service, Disney+ Hotstar, while you wait.
